The Roland CUBE Street EX is a battery-powered stereo amplifier designed for musicians who need high-quality audio and powerful output in a portable format. Function Description

The CUBE Street EX serves as a compact, high-output stereo amplifier capable of delivering up to 50 watts of power. It features two independent channels: a MIC/INSTRUMENT channel and a MIC/GUITAR channel, each with its own input, volume control, and equalization. This dual-channel design allows for simultaneous connection of a microphone and an instrument, or two instruments, making it highly flexible for solo performers or small ensembles.

The MIC/INSTRUMENT channel is equipped with a combo jack that accepts both XLR and 1/4-inch phone plugs, making it compatible with microphones, keyboards, or other electronic musical instruments. It includes a [SELECT] switch to optimize the input level for either a microphone or an instrument, ensuring proper gain staging. This channel also features a 3-band equalizer (BASS, MIDDLE, TREBLE) for tone shaping and a REVERB effect to add spaciousness to the sound.

The MIC/GUITAR channel also features a combo input jack, designed for electric guitars, acoustic guitars, or microphones. This channel boasts Roland's COSM (Composite Object Sound Modeling) amplifier technology, offering six distinct amp types: E-GUITAR (for acoustic guitars with pickups), ACOUSTIC SIM (transforms electric guitar sound into acoustic), CLEAN (transparent and natural sound), CRUNCH (fat crunch sound), LEAD (high-gain distortion), and MIC (for microphones). Like the MIC/INSTRUMENT channel, it includes a 3-band equalizer and a REVERB effect. Additionally, this channel incorporates a CHORUS/DELAY effect, allowing users to switch between a spacially synthesized chorus or a delay effect with adjustable time and amount.

The amplifier includes an AUDIO IN (i-CUBE LINK) jack, which is a 4-pole miniature phone type input. This innovative feature allows users to connect an iPad or iPhone using the included mini cable, transforming the CUBE Street EX into an audio interface. This enables playback of audio from the connected device through the amplifier's speakers while simultaneously sending the guitar and/or vocal sound from the CUBE Street EX to the iPad/iPhone for recording or mixdown with various apps.

For broader connectivity, the CUBE Street EX provides LINE IN (L/MONO, R) jacks for connecting line-level devices such as keyboards or other audio players. It also has LINE OUT (L/MONO, R) and STEREO LINK OUT (L, R) jacks, which output the same sound as the amplifier's speakers. These outputs are useful for connecting to an audio interface, recorder, or a larger PA system. A PHONES jack is included for private monitoring with headphones, which mutes the main speakers when in use.

A unique "STEREO LINK" function allows two CUBE Street EX units to be connected together, effectively doubling the output power and creating a true stereo PA system. This is particularly useful for larger venues or outdoor performances where more volume and a wider stereo image are desired.

Usage Features

Battery Operation and Power Management: The CUBE Street EX is designed for portability, primarily powered by eight AA batteries (alkaline or rechargeable Ni-MH). A [OUTPUT POWER] switch offers three modes: MAX (50W), NORMAL (25W), and ECO (10W). The ECO mode significantly extends battery life, providing up to approximately 20 hours of use with rechargeable Ni-MH batteries, making it ideal for long performances or situations where power outlets are scarce. An AC adaptor is included for continuous use or when battery power is not preferred. The unit features a [BATTERY CHECK/MUTE] switch and indicator to monitor remaining battery power, ensuring users are aware when batteries need replacement.

Portability and Durability: The cabinet is constructed from ABS injection-molded resin, contributing to a lightweight yet tough design. Versatile Input and Output Options: With four inputs (two combo jacks, one stereo mini-jack, and one stereo line-in) and various output options (line out, stereo link out, phones), the CUBE Street EX can accommodate a wide array of instruments and audio sources. This flexibility allows it to adapt to different performance setups, from a solo singer-songwriter to a small band.

COSM Amp Modeling: The COSM amp types on the MIC/GUITAR channel provide a range of classic and original amplifier sounds, allowing guitarists to achieve diverse tones without needing multiple amplifiers or effects pedals. The ACOUSTIC SIM is particularly useful for electric guitarists who need to switch to an acoustic sound during a performance.

Integrated Effects: Both channels include a REVERB effect, and the MIC/GUITAR channel adds CHORUS/DELAY. These built-in effects eliminate the need for external pedals, simplifying the setup and reducing equipment count for performers.

i-CUBE LINK Functionality: The i-CUBE LINK feature transforms the CUBE Street EX into a powerful tool for modern musicians. By connecting an iPad or iPhone, users can record their performances directly to mobile apps, play along with backing tracks, or use the amplifier as an audio interface for various music production and learning applications. This integration with smart devices significantly expands the amplifier's creative possibilities.

Footswitch Control: The unit includes FOOT SW jacks for connecting optional footswitches (BOSS FS-5U or FS-6). This allows performers to remotely control the CHORUS/DELAY and REVERB effects on the MIC/GUITAR channel, or the REVERB on the MIC/INSTRUMENT channel, freeing their hands for playing.

Maintenance Features

General Cleaning: For everyday cleaning, the unit should be wiped with a soft, dry cloth or one slightly dampened with water. For stubborn dirt, a mild, non-abrasive detergent can be used, followed by a thorough wipe with a soft, dry cloth. It is crucial to avoid harsh chemicals like benzine, thinners, alcohol, or solvents, as these can cause discoloration or deformation.

Power Cord and Plug Care: The power plug should be periodically cleaned to prevent dust and foreign object accumulation, which can lead to fire or electric shock. When disconnecting the power cord, always grasp the plug, not the cable, to prevent conductor damage. The power cord should not be bent or have heavy objects placed on it.

Battery Handling: Batteries should be handled carefully to prevent fluid leakage, overheating, combustion, or explosion. This includes ensuring correct polarity during installation, avoiding mixing new and used batteries or different types, and removing batteries during extended periods of disuse. Rechargeable batteries should only be used with their specified chargers and according to manufacturer instructions.

Environmental Considerations: The unit should be placed in a well-ventilated location, away from direct sunlight, heat-radiating devices, and extreme temperatures to prevent deformation or discoloration. It should also be protected from dampness, steam, smoke, salt exposure, rain, dust, sand, and high levels of vibration. When moving the unit between locations with significant temperature or humidity differences, allow it to acclimatize for several hours to prevent condensation, which can cause damage or malfunction.

Protection from Foreign Objects and Liquids: It is important to prevent foreign objects (flammable objects, coins, wires) or liquids (water, juice) from entering the unit, as this can cause short circuits, faulty operation, or other malfunctions. No containers with liquid should be placed on the unit.

Safe Transport: When transporting the unit, it should be packed in shock-absorbent material to prevent scratches, damage, or malfunction from impacts.

Operational Precautions: Always turn down the volume of all connected devices and the CUBE Street EX before powering on or off to prevent sudden loud noises. Avoid extended use at high volumes to prevent hearing loss. If any abnormality or malfunction occurs (e.g., damaged power cord, smoke, unusual odor, liquid spills, exposure to rain, or changes in performance), immediately turn off the unit, disconnect the AC adaptor, and seek servicing from an authorized professional.
