Auto Punch
1) Press the LOCATOR button (under EDIT CONDITION) several times until ÒAPinÓ is displayed.
2) While holding the AUTO PUNCH button, press the LOC 1 button and then the LOC 2 button.
3) If you press the PARAMETER right button you will see that the ÒAPOtÓ point has been set to the time
defined by the LOC 2 button. The same is true with the ÒAPinÓ time and the LOC 1 button. Press the
PARAMETER left button to confirm this setting.
Continue with Step 5 in the Auto Punch section (p.22).
Recording with External Effects Processors
If you have an external effects processor that you would like to integrate into the VS-880, the following
example will demonstrate how to configure that type of setup. The VS-880 has a stereo AUX SEND which
can be used as a stereo send or two mono sends. The diagram below shows a single effects unit configured
in mono. Any channel on the VS-880 can be sent to the AUX buss and returned back into the VS-880 from
an external processor. The process is very similar to assigning internal effects, which we have covered in
previous sections.
1) Make sure the VS-880 is in INPUT MIX mode. (Hold SHIFT and press the SELECT button to change
modes).
2) Plug an instrument or microphone into Input 3 of the VS-880 and connect your effects processor as
shown below.

3) Press the CH EDIT button 3 to select channel 3 as the Input we will be routing to the effects processor.
4) Hold SHIFT and press the Aux Send button (CH EDIT button 6).
5) Use the TIME/VALUE dial to select ÒPstFade.Ó The signal level sent to your external effects processor
will now be affected by the channel 3 fader.
Note: The same concepts regarding Pre Fader and Post Fader apply here just as they did before (see
page 21). However, ÒInsertÓ is not a choice for the AUX SEND. If you were recording guitar and wanted to
use your external effects unit in an insert or ÒserialÓ configuration, you would run your guitar directly into
the Input of the effects processor and then run the output of the effects processor to the Input of the
VS-880. Another way you can accomplish this is to record a dry signal to a Track in the VS-880, send the
signal to the external effects processor and turn down the volume of the original track.
6) Press the PARAMETER right button to access the AUX Level value. This value represents the amount
of channel 3 signal (volume) that is being sent to the AUX SEND. We will leave it at Ò100Ó, the factory
default. In a PstFade configuration the fader level is relative to this level.
7) Turn the AUX SEND knob all the way left and right (to cross any null points) and set it to 0dB (3/4 of the
way right). This controls the master AUX SEND level and maintains the relationships between the AUX
Levels of the different channels.
8) Press the PARAMETER right button again to access the AUX Pan value. This value represents how
much of the signal is being sent to the left (AUX SEND A) and to the right (AUX SEND B). Since we
want the signal to go out AUX SEND A, turn the TIME/VALUE dial counter-clockwise to ÒL63.Ó If we
were mixing a stereo Input source (i.e. CH 3 & 4), we would set the AUX Pan value to ÒL63Ó on Input 3
and ÒR63Ó on Input 4. That way, we would be sending the signal in stereo to the external effects
processor.
9) Next, we will route Input 3 to record buss 3-4. Hold SHIFT and press the Input/BUSS button (CH EDIT
button 1).
