10) Use the TIME/VALUE dial to select ÒBUSS Sel= 3-4Ó as the destination Track.
11) Turn the PAN knob on channel 3 all the way to the right (to cross any null points) and then all the way
to the left. This will ensure that the whole signal is recorded to Track 3 only.
12) Now, we can route the effect return (Input 1) to the same record buss as the source signal coming in on
Input 3. Press the CH EDIT button 1 to select Input 1 as the Input we will be routing.
13) Use the TIME/VALUE dial to select ÒBUSS Sel= 3-4Ó as the destination Track.
14) Turn the PAN knob on channel 1 all the way to the right and then all the way to the left. This will
ensure that the whole effected signal is recorded to Track 3 only.
15) Press the SELECT button to switch to TRACK MIX mode and move the channel 3 fader all the way up
and all the way down and then to a comfortable listening level.
16) Press the STATUS button on channel 3 until the light above it begins blinking red.
17) Adjust the Input volume with the INPUT SENS 3 knob and make sure itÕs not peaking or distorting.
18) Press the REC button Ð the light above it will begin to blink red.
19) Press the PLAY button to begin recording.
Note: you could also use up to two external effects processors and buss both of them back into the VS-
880 in stereo. With that setup, AUX SEND A from the VS-880 would go to the MONO Input of one
processor and AUX SEND B from the VS-880 would go to the MONO Input of the other processor. The
stereo output of each processor would then be returned to Inputs 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 respectively.
Adding Effects From an External Processor to a Recorded Track:
If you have already recorded a Track and want to then add some effects to it from and external processor
follow this next procedure. This example will assume that you have recorded material on Track 1.
1) Make sure that the VS-880 is in TRACK MIX mode.
2) Press CH EDIT button 1 to route Track 1 to the AUX SEND buss.
3) Hold SHIFT and press the Aux Send button (CH EDIT button 6).
4) Use the TIME/VALUE dial to select ÒPstFade.Ó
5) Press the PARAMETER right button to access the AUX Level value. This value goes from 0 to 127 and
represents the amount of signal (volume) that is being sent to the AUX SEND (127 Max). Set this to Ò100.Ó
6) Press the PARAMETER right button again to access the AUX Pan value. This value determines how
much of the signal is being sent to the left (AUX SEND A) and to the right (AUX SEND B). If you want
the signal to be sent to the AUX SEND A output only, turn the TIME/VALUE dial counter-clockwise to
the value ÒL63.Ó If you want the signal to be sent to the AUX SEND B output only, turn the TIME/VALUE
dial clockwise to the value ÒR63.Ó If you want it to be sent to both sides equally, leave the value at Ò0.Ó
7) Turn the AUX SEND knob all the way left and right (to cross any null points) and set it to 0dB (3/4 of the
way right).
At this point, the signal from Track 1 on the VS-880 will be sent to the AUX SEND, and if setup as shown on
previous page, the affected sound will be coming into Input 1.
Using External Effects with a Stereo Input Source
1) Make sure the VS-880 is in INPUT MIX mode. (Hold SHIFT and press the SELECT button to change
modes).
2) Plug a stereo audio source into Input 3 (Left) and Input 4 (Right) of the VS-880 and set-up your effects
processor as shown in the diagram on p.25.
3) Press the CH EDIT button 3 to select Input 3 as the Input we will be routing.
4) Hold SHIFT and press Aux Send (CH EDIT button 6).
5) Use the TIME/VALUE dial to select ÒPstFade.Ó
6) Press the PARAMETER right button to access the AUX Level value. We will leave it at Ò100Ó, the
factory default.
7) Press the PARAMETER right button to access the AUX Pan value. This value represents how much of
the signal is being sent to the left (AUX SEND A) and to the right (AUX SEND B). WeÕre mixing a stereo
Input source (CH 3 & 4), so we will set the AUX Pan value to ÒL63Ó on Input 3 and ÒR63Ó on Input 4.
That way, we will be sending the signal in stereo to the external effects processor.
8) Next, we will route Input 3 to record buss 3-4. Hold SHIFT and press Input/BUSS (CH EDIT button 1).
9) Use the TIME/VALUE dial to select ÒBUSS Sel= 3-4.Ó Turn the PAN knob on channel 3 all the way to
the right and then all the way to the left. This will ensure that the Input 3 signal is recorded only to
Track 3.
10) Repeat steps 3 through 9 for channel 4. Turn the PAN knob on channel 4 all the way to the left and
then all the way to the right. This will ensure that the Input 4 signal is recorded only to Track 4.
