This selects the settings needed to keep signals in digital
form for effects processing when the VM-3100 is connected to
an effects device featuring digital input capabilities. The
DIGITAL OUT A connector is connected to the digital input
of the external effects device, and the output of the effects
device is connected to either the DIGITAL IN A or B
connector.

Master Clock to “DIN-A” (DIGITAL IN A) or “DIN-B”
(DIGITAL IN B) (User's Manual; p.52).
