Overview

This document is the owner's manual for the Royal Gourmet PD1300N Portable 3-Burner Gas Griddle.

Function Description:

The Royal Gourmet PD1300N is a portable outdoor cooking appliance designed for grilling with propane gas. It features three burners, allowing for versatile cooking temperatures and zones. The griddle surface provides a flat, even cooking area suitable for a wide variety of foods. It is intended for outdoor use only and should not be operated inside buildings, garages, or any other enclosed spaces. The appliance is designed for ease of use, with piezo ignition for the main burners and the option for manual lighting with a matchstick. It emphasizes safety through detailed instructions for assembly, gas cylinder connection, leak testing, and operation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: PD1300N
  • Fuel Type: LP (Liquified Petroleum) Gas only.
  • Burners: 3 burners.
  • Regulator Outlet Pressure: 11 inches water column.
  • LP Cylinder Compatibility: Designed for Worthington, Manchester, or SMPC brand 20 lb. (9.1 kg) cylinders. Other brands may fit if the top collar and bottom support ring have similar dimensions. The LP cylinder must not exceed 20 lb. (9.1 kg) capacity (approximately 18" (45.7cm) high and 12" (30.5cm) diameter).
  • LP Cylinder Features: Must be equipped with an Overfill Protection Device (OPD) and a QCC1 Type 1 Quick Connect Valve. The OPD prevents accidental gas leaks from overfilling, indicated by a triangular hand wheel. The QCC1 valve provides fast cylinder hook-ups and requires hand tightening only.
  • Regulator Safety Features: Equipped with a thermal element that shuts off gas flow if the temperature reaches 115 °C (240 °F) and a flow-limiting device that restricts gas flow to 0.28 cubic meters per hour (10 cubic feet per hour).
  • Clearance Requirements: Maintain at least 91 cm (36 inches) from side and back, and 61 cm (24 inches) from the floor to combustible and noncombustible materials. Maintain at least 10 feet clearance to combustible objects that can catch fire. Do not operate under overhead roof construction or foliage.
  • Materials: Contains Nickel (Metallic) and Lead/Lead Compounds, as per California Proposition 65 warning. Stainless steel burners are covered by a 5-year warranty against rust-through.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: Requires careful assembly according to provided instructions. All parts must be securely fastened before use.
  • Gas Connection: Connect the regulator hose to the griddle and the regulator valve to the LP gas cylinder. Ensure all control knobs are in the OFF position before turning on the gas supply.
  • Ignition:
    • Piezo Ignition: Turn control knobs to OFF, turn on gas supply, push in control knob and turn anti-clockwise to HI, then push and hold the ignitor button.
    • Manual Lighting: Turn control knobs to OFF, turn on gas supply, remove cooking griddle, place a lit match close to burner ports, push in control knob and turn anti-clockwise to HI.
  • Flame Pattern Check: After lighting, visually inspect flame patterns. A good flame is primarily blue with a yellow tip (less than 2.5 cm or 1 inch). Uneven or yellow flames may indicate blockages or gas supply issues.
  • Turning Off: Turn off the gas supply at the LP cylinder by turning the valve clockwise to a full stop, then turn all burner control knobs to the OFF position.
  • Seasoning: The griddle comes with a thin layer of oil for rust protection during shipping. First seasoning involves washing off shipping oil, applying virgin olive or vegetable oil, heating at medium-high until smoke stops, and repeating 2-3 times until a black surface is achieved. A thin coat of oil should be applied after each use to maintain seasoning and protect from rust.
  • Preheating: Preheat the griddle on MEDIUM/HIGH for 5 to 10 minutes before cooking, adjusting heat as needed.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always use outdoors.
    • Do not move when lit or hot.
    • Keep children and pets away.
    • Do not alter the griddle.
    • Do not use gasoline, kerosene, or alcohol for lighting.
    • Keep the griddle area clear of combustible materials, gasoline, and flammable vapors.
    • Do not touch hot metal parts without protective gear.
    • Clean and inspect the hose before each use; replace if damaged.
    • Do not allow oil/grease to exceed 177 °C (350 °F) when cooking.
    • Ensure ventilation openings of the cylinder enclosure are clear.
    • Never store a filled LP gas cylinder in a hot car or truck.
    • Always transport LP cylinder in an upright position.
    • Place a dust cap on the cylinder gas valve outlet when not in use.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Cleaning: Clean the griddle often, preferably after each cookout.
  • Cooking Griddle Cleaning: Scrape and wipe down with a paper towel or wet soft cloth. For tough residue, use a mild cream cleaner and pad, or soapy water with 1/4 cup of table salt. Rinse well and dry.
  • Stainless Steel Cleaning: Use multipurpose, low-abrasion, non-phosphorous metal or stainless steel polish and a soft cloth, polishing in the direction of the finish. Avoid accumulation of grease and dirt. Protect from harsh chemicals (chlorine, bromine), fertilizers, ice-melting products, saltwater, urine, bird droppings, and tree sap.
  • Other Exterior Surfaces Cleaning: Wash with mild dishwashing detergent and warm water using a cloth, soft brush (non-metallic), or plastic cleaning pad. Rinse and wipe dry.
  • Grease Cup Cleaning: Check after each use. Remove and empty when half full. Wash with warm water and mild dishwashing detergent.
  • Burner Cleaning: Recommended at least twice a year, or before use if stored for over a month.
    • Turn off gas at LP cylinder, remove cooking griddle.
    • Lift burners out.
    • Clean inside of burner with a stiff wire or compressed air (wear eye protection). Do not enlarge burner ports.
    • Brush outer surface of burner.
    • Ensure all ports are free of debris.
    • Inspect burners for cracks or enlarged ports.
    • Replace cooking griddle.
    • Perform a Leak Test after cleaning.
  • LP Cylinder Leak Test: Must be repeated each time the LP cylinder is exchanged or refilled, or if any gas supply components have been changed, or after long periods of non-use. Use a 50/50 soap and water solution and a clean paint brush. Apply solution to all metal seams and the entire valve area. A leak is indicated by bubbles. If leaks persist, contact the gas griddle dealer. Do not use matches, open flames, or smoke during testing.
  • Storage: Clean before storage. Store in a cool, dry place. If stored indoors, the LP cylinder must be disconnected and removed. A griddle cover is highly recommended. Perform a Leak Test before using after storage.

Warranty and Customer Service:

  • Warranty: 1-Year Full Warranty from original retail purchase date for defects in materials and workmanship under proper assembly, normal residential use, and recommended care. Paint finish and rust are not covered as manufacturing defects.
  • Stainless Steel Burner Warranty: 5-Year warranty from purchase date for rust-through.
  • Exclusions: Warranty does not cover commercial/rental use, cosmetic issues (scratches, dents, corrosion, discoloration from heat/cleaners/tools), failures due to accident, abuse, misuse, alteration, improper installation/maintenance, insect damage in burner tubes, severe weather damage, service call costs, removal/re-installation costs, pickup/delivery costs, shipping/transportation costs, or labor costs.
