Basic Tips for Rotisserie Cooking:
When you are using Rotisserie, use the indirect cooking method, in other words, the burners at each end of the grill are lit and the
food is placed centrally on the Rotisserie, with no direct heat source underneath. Some grill models offer a Rotisserie burner or a
back burner. To catch any drips from the Rotisserie cooked food it will be necessary to remove the cooking grid(s) then place a drip
pan directly under the food. These drippings can be used for making gravies and other sauces to accompany the cooked meats.
This drip pan also collects greases which could otherwise collect in your grill bowl and cause a grease fire.
Once your Rotisserie, food and drip pan are in position with the indirect heat source on, close the grill lid. Cooking time on a rotisserie
will be approximately the same as for oven cooking. However, temperature factors can affect actual cooking times. Watch the
temperature carefully and monitor your food frequently for best results. It is recommended that you use a meat thermometer to test
for the desired well doneness of any foods prepared on a rotisserie.

Overview

This document outlines the assembly and usage instructions for the Royal Gourmet Universal Rotisserie, model RTS5000 (Serial No.: 0602P-1). This rotisserie system is designed to enhance your grilling experience by providing a method for indirect cooking, particularly suitable for roasting meats evenly and thoroughly.

Function Description

The Universal Rotisserie system consists of several key components that work together to rotate food over a heat source. At its core, the system utilizes a motor-driven spit rod to continuously turn food, ensuring uniform cooking and browning. The motor bracket and mounting bracket secure the motor to the grill bowl, typically on the outside panels. The spit rod, composed of multiple sections connected by spit rod connectors, passes through the food and is supported by the motor on one end and a mounting bracket on the other. Meat forks are slid onto the spit rod and tightened to hold the food securely in place. A locking collar and balance kit help to stabilize the spit rod and ensure smooth rotation, while a handle allows for manual manipulation when needed. The primary function is to enable indirect rotisserie cooking, where food is placed centrally over a drip pan with burners lit on either side, or utilizing a dedicated rotisserie burner if available on the grill. This method promotes even cooking, self-basting, and results in moist, tender meats with a crispy exterior.

Usage Features

The rotisserie is designed for straightforward assembly and operation. The initial setup involves attaching the motor bracket to the left grill bowl panel and the mounting bracket to the right grill bowl panel using provided hex screws, washers, and nuts. The motor then inserts into its bracket. The spit rod is assembled from its various sections using connectors, and meat forks are positioned on the rod to secure the food. Proper spacing of the meat forks is crucial to accommodate the food item. A locking collar, balance kit, and handle are then added to complete the spit rod assembly. Once the rotisserie is placed into the grill, the locking collar can be tightened.

For cooking, the manual emphasizes using the indirect cooking method. This means lighting the burners at each end of the grill while placing the food centrally on the rotisserie, ensuring no direct heat underneath. If your grill has a dedicated rotisserie or back burner, it should be utilized. To manage drippings and prevent grease fires, it is essential to remove the cooking grid(s) and place a drip pan directly under the food. These drippings can be collected and used for gravies or sauces. After positioning the rotisserie, food, and drip pan, the grill lid should be closed to maintain consistent cooking temperatures. Cooking times are generally comparable to oven cooking, but monitoring the temperature and food frequently with a meat thermometer is recommended for best results and to achieve desired doneness. The rotisserie is intended for use with grills and should not be exposed to rain. It is crucial to follow all safety procedures outlined in both the rotisserie and grill manuals.

Maintenance Features

Maintaining the rotisserie involves several safety and cleaning practices to ensure its longevity and safe operation. Before cleaning, the rotisserie should be unplugged from the outlet and allowed to cool completely. It is important not to immerse the motor, cord, or plug in water or any other liquid to prevent electrical shock. The manual explicitly states not to clean the product with a water spray or similar methods. If the appliance has a damaged cord or plug, or if it has been damaged in any manner, it should not be operated. After use, the rotisserie should be cleaned, and all components should be stored indoors, out of reach of children, when not in use.

The manual also highlights several safety precautions that indirectly contribute to maintenance by preventing damage. These include ensuring the plug fits correctly into the wall outlet and not attempting to modify it. The appliance should only be used for its intended purpose, and fuel or charcoal briquettes are not to be used with it. To protect against electrical shock, the rotisserie must be connected to properly grounded outlets only. When using extension cords, they must have an electrical rating at least as great as the appliance's and be arranged to prevent tripping or snagging by children. The extension cord connection should be kept dry and off the ground. When assembling, caution is advised due to the sharp ends of the spit rod and meat forks. Finally, to avoid injury, the grill should be allowed to cool down before removing the drip pan. Adhering to these guidelines ensures the safe and effective operation and preservation of the rotisserie system.
