Overview

The RS-14 (Stock No: 123-1938) is an autoranging multimeter designed for a wide range of electrical measurements. It features a 2000-count Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) with symbolic signs, providing clear function indication and automatic polarity for negative readings. The device is equipped with an Auto Power Off function that activates after approximately 15 minutes of inactivity, conserving battery life.

Function Description:

The RS-14 is capable of measuring:

  • DC Voltage (V DC): Auto-ranging, with ranges from 200.0mV to 600V.
  • AC Voltage (V AC): Auto-ranging (except 200mV), with ranges from 200.0mV to 600V.
  • DC Current (mA DC/A DC): Auto-ranging for µA and mA, with ranges from 200.0µA to 10A.
  • AC Current (mA AC/A AC): Auto-ranging for µA and mA, with ranges from 200.0µA to 10A.
  • Resistance (Ω): Auto-ranging, with ranges from 200.0Ω to 20.00MΩ.
  • Diode Test: Measures forward voltage drop.
  • Continuity Check: Provides an audible signal for low resistance.
  • Temperature (°C/°F): Measures temperature using a Type K thermocouple.

Usage Features:

  • Function Switch: Used to select the desired measurement mode (V DC, V AC, mA DC/AC, A DC/AC, Resistance, Diode test, Continuity, Temperature). Always turn to OFF when not in use.
  • MODE Button: Toggles between Diode/Continuity, AC/DC for voltage and current, and °C/°F for temperature.
  • RANGE Button: Allows manual selection of measurement ranges. Press and hold for 2 seconds to return to AutoRanging mode.
  • DATA HOLD/BACKLIGHT CONTROL Button: "Freezes" the current display reading and controls the backlight. Press once to hold data, press again to release. Press and hold for 2 seconds to turn backlight ON/OFF.
  • MAX HOLD Button: Displays and continuously updates the maximum measured value. Press once to activate, press again to release.
  • Safety Precautions: The manual emphasizes critical safety information, including never grounding oneself during measurements, avoiding exceeding specified maximum inputs, and ensuring proper connection of test leads. Warnings are provided for high voltage circuits, current measurements on the 10A scale (limited to 30 seconds), and measuring AC/DC voltages when motors are switching ON/OFF.

Maintenance Features:

  • Fuse Replacement: Instructions are provided for replacing the 200mA (Ceramic 0.2A/250V fast blow 5mm x 20mm) and 10A (Ceramic 10A/250V fast blow 5mm x 20mm) fuses. Safety warnings are included regarding disconnecting test leads and ensuring the battery door is securely fastened.
  • Battery Installation & Replacement: Details on how to install and replace the 9V battery, including observing correct polarity and ensuring the battery door is secure. A "BAT" indicator on the LCD signals low battery.
  • Cleaning: The case should be periodically wiped with a dry cloth. Abrasives or solvents should not be used.
  • Servicing: Repairs or servicing not covered in the manual should only be performed by qualified personnel.
  • Limited Warranty: The meter comes with a 1-year warranty against defects in material and workmanship from the date of purchase, covering repair or replacement. The warranty does not cover fuses, disposable batteries, or damage from abuse, neglect, accident, unauthorized repair, alteration, contamination, or abnormal operating conditions.
