Overview

This document is the operator's manual for the RYOBI RY141812G Electric Pressure Washer.

Function Description:

The RYOBI RY141812G is an electric pressure washer designed for various cleaning tasks around the house and outdoors. It uses a high-pressure stream of water to remove dirt, grime, and other debris from surfaces. The product features an automatic detergent injection system, allowing users to apply detergent quickly and easily to their cleaning projects. It is equipped with a trigger handle for controlling the water flow and a lock-out mechanism for protection against unauthorized use. The pressure washer is designed for outdoor use only.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Maximum Pounds Per Square Inch (PSI): 1,800 psi (Max rating determined by PWMA Standard 101)
  • Maximum Gallons Per Minute (GPM): 1.2 GPM
  • Input: 120 V, AC only, 60 Hz, 13 Amps
  • Power Cord: Equipped with a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) plug for protection against electric shock.
  • Hose: 20 ft. High Pressure Hose
  • Nozzles: Includes 15°, Turbo, and Soap nozzles for different spray patterns and cleaning intensities.

Usage Features:

  • On/Off Switch: A simple switch to turn the pressure washer on and off.
  • Trigger Handle with Lock-Out: The trigger handle releases a stream of water for high-pressure cleaning. The lock-out feature prevents accidental or unauthorized operation. To operate, pull back and hold the trigger. To stop, release the trigger. To engage the lock-out, push it up until it clicks into the slot. To disengage, push it down to its original position.
  • Nozzle Selection Guide: The manual provides a guide for selecting the appropriate nozzle for different cleaning jobs.
  1. Turbo Nozzle: Provides a high-pressure, rotating stream for abrasive cleaning, suitable for concrete, brick, and masonry.
  2. 15° Nozzle: Offers a concentrated 15-degree spray for high-pressure cleaning, also suitable for concrete, brick, masonry, siding, gutters, houses, fencing, decks, patios, lawn equipment, boats, and RVs.
  3. Soap Nozzle (Blue or Black): Delivers a low-pressure, wide spray for applying detergent or gentle rinsing. This nozzle activates the detergent injector at a 20:1 dilution ratio. It is suitable for all listed cleaning tasks when soap is desired.
  • Detergent Injection System: Pour detergent into the soap tank. The soap nozzle activates the detergent injector for easy application. Only use detergents designed for pressure washers; avoid acids, alkalines, bleaches, solvents, flammable materials, or industrial-grade solutions, as these can cause injury or damage to the machine.
  • Water Connection: Connect a garden hose to the water intake. Ensure the garden hose is at least 3/4 inch in diameter and free of kinks, leaks, or blockages to provide adequate water supply. Always open the water source full force.
  • Starting the Pressure Washer: Before starting, connect the garden hose, ensure the water supply is on, and connect the power cord to a GFCI-protected outlet. Turn the on/off switch to the "on" (I) position. Squeeze the trigger handle to relieve air from the line and allow water to flow.
  • Stopping the Pressure Washer: Turn off the pressure washer, disconnect the power supply, and shut off the water supply. Always pull the trigger to relieve stored pressure in the high-pressure hose after stopping the motor to prevent serious injury.
  • Extension Cords: Use only outdoor-rated extension cords with an electrical rating not less than the product's rating. Always plug the extension cord into a GFCI-protected outlet and create a "drip loop" to prevent water from reaching the connection.

Maintenance Features:

  • Nozzle Maintenance: If the pressure washer experiences pulsing or inadequate pressure, the nozzle may be clogged or dirty. To clean, turn off the pressure washer, shut off the water supply, unplug the unit, and remove the nozzle. Use a straightened paper clip or fine needle to clear any foreign materials. Back flush the nozzle with a garden hose. Reconnect the nozzle and the garden hose, then connect to power.
  • Pump Protector: Regular use of pump protector is recommended, especially if storing the unit in temperatures below 32°F, to prevent freeze damage and extend pump life. Freeze damage will void the warranty.
  • Storage: Store the pressure washer in a dry, covered, frost-free area. Empty all water from hoses, the pump, and the soap tank before storing. Coil the high-pressure hose and power cord, securing them with the hook-and-loop straps provided. Disassemble the spray wand and trigger handle for storage. Do not store near furnaces or other heat sources that could dry out pump seals.
  • General Maintenance: Regularly check bolts and nuts for looseness. Allow the motor to cool before storing. When servicing, use only identical replacement parts to avoid hazards or product damage. Inspect the product carefully for any breakage or damage before and after use.

Safety Precautions:

  • Read and understand all instructions before use.
  • Wear eye protection (ANSI Z87.1 compliant) with side shields.
  • Do not direct the discharge stream at persons, animals, electrical devices, or the machine itself.
  • Keep the operating area clear of all persons, especially children and pets.
  • Do not overreach or stand on unstable supports.
  • Do not operate while tired or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Keep the motor away from flammables and hazardous materials.
  • Use only cold water.
  • Never pick up or carry the machine while the motor is running.
  • Do not start the machine if ice has formed in any part of the equipment.
  • Maintain a minimum clearance of 3 feet from combustible materials.
  • Do not spray close to the surface to be cleaned if it can cause damage.
  • Ensure the high-pressure hose is properly connected.
  • Connect the pressure washer only to an individual branch circuit.
  • Hold the trigger handle securely with both hands to counter reaction forces.
  • Keep all electrical connections dry and off the ground. Do not touch the plug with wet hands.
  • Never remove nozzles without first turning off the motor, disconnecting the power supply, relieving water pressure, and engaging the lock-out.
