withagoodgradeofwaterproofautomotivegrease.

beforefirstoperatingtheengine.Themanualcontainsrunninginstructions,technical
specifications,maintenanceschedulesandinformationonreplacementpartsandfluids.
Thesinglemostimportantfactoraffectingenginelifeistheattentionpaidtorouting
preventivemaintenance.
16:01AUXILIARYENGINE
:Theenginefoundationisarigidfiberglassreinforcedbed.
Itisdesignedtowithstandtheforwardthrustofthepropellerwhilesupportingthe
weightoftheengineunderavarietyofpositionsinflictedbythesea.Theengineis
securedtothisbedwithaseriesofrubberizedmotormounts.Thesespecializeddevices
absorbvibrationandcushionanymovementtheengineattemptstomake.
Theengineisaccessiblefromavarietyoflocations.Thegalleytopisremovableonall
modelswhichprovidesalargeoverheadareaofaccess.Thewastebasketandgalleyface
drawersmustfirstberemoved.Removingthecompanionwaystepsandavarietyofaccess
panelsanddoorsallowsaccessfrommanyangles.Accesstotheaftsideoftheengine,
stuffingboxandcouplingisgainedthroughthecockpitlocker.Aremovablemahogany
plywoodpanelprotectsthisareaandmechanismsfromgearstoredinthelocker.For
extensiveworkorremoval,frontpanelsofthegalleymayberemovedbyunscrewingthe
attachmentcleatsintheenginecompartment.
16:02BEFORESTARTINGENGINE
:Eachtimebeforestartingtheengineitisnecessaryto
dothefollowing:
1.Runenginecompartmentblowerforatleastfourminutestoexhaustanypossiblefuel
fumes.Anexplosionispossibleifthisprocedureisnotfollowed.
2.Checkseawaterstrainerfordebrisandcleanifnecessary.
3.Openseawaterseacock.
4.Checkcoolingwaterlevelonengineswithfreshwatercooling.
5.Checktransmissionandengineoillevels.
6.Checkfuellevelandopenfuelvalve.Thevalveislocatedonthesideofthe
galleyfacingthequarterberth.Thehandleisverticalwhenopenandhorizontalwhen
closed.Startengineinaccordancewithinstructionsgivenintheengineowner'smanual.
