Overview

This document describes the Sanyo DC-DA1000 (XE) Micro Component System, a versatile audio device that integrates a CD player, a cassette deck, and a tuner into a compact unit. The system is designed for ease of use and offers various features for enjoying different audio formats.

Function Description

The Sanyo DC-DA1000 (XE) serves as a comprehensive audio system, providing multiple functionalities for audio playback and reception.

  • CD Player: The integrated CD player allows for the playback of compact discs. It utilizes an optical 3-beam semiconductor laser for precise data retrieval. The system is designed to handle 2-channel stereo audio with a sampling frequency of 44.1 kHz.
  • Cassette Deck Section: The cassette deck supports the playback and recording of audio cassettes. It features a 4-track, 2-channel stereo system, enabling standard cassette operations.
  • Tuner: The built-in tuner provides access to FM and AM radio broadcasts. It covers a wide range of frequencies, allowing users to tune into their favorite radio stations.

Usage Features

The Sanyo DC-DA1000 (XE) is designed with user convenience in mind, offering straightforward operation and various controls for an enhanced audio experience.

  • System Connections: The system provides clear connection points for external components. It includes dedicated terminals for FM and AM antennas, allowing for optimal radio signal reception. Speaker outputs are available for connecting external speakers, ensuring a stereo audio experience. Additionally, a headphone jack is provided for private listening. The unit connects to an AC outlet for power.
  • Front Panel Controls: The front panel features a range of buttons and a knob for intuitive control. These include buttons for various functions such as power, source selection (CD, Tuner, Tape), playback controls (play, stop, pause, fast forward, rewind), and tuning. A volume knob allows for easy adjustment of the audio output level. An LCD display provides visual feedback on the current mode, track information, and tuning frequency.
  • Remote Control: The system is compatible with a remote control (RB-DA1000, part code: 645 057 4559), offering convenient operation from a distance. This allows users to manage playback, adjust volume, and switch modes without directly interacting with the unit.
  • Display Features: The LCD display provides essential information, including indicators for AM/FM, stereo mode, bass, surround sound, sleep timer, and program/track numbers. It also shows frequency information in MHz or kHz.
  • Tuner Adjustments: The tuner section allows for precise adjustments to optimize radio reception. This includes IF (Intermediate Frequency) adjustment and cover voltage adjustment for both FM and AM bands. Tracking adjustments are also available for AM. These adjustments are typically performed using a plastic screwdriver.
  • Tape Adjustments: The cassette deck offers several adjustments to maintain optimal performance. These include replacing and demagnetizing the head, adjusting head azimuth for proper stereo balance and phase, and adjusting motor speed to ensure accurate playback and recording speeds. Mechanism torques can also be checked and maintained.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for ensuring the longevity and optimal performance of the Sanyo DC-DA1000 (XE). The manual provides guidelines for specific maintenance tasks.

  • CD Pick-up Maintenance: The optical lens of the CD pick-up unit requires periodic cleaning to prevent playback issues. This can be done using a cotton swab moistened with isopropyl alcohol, cleaning paper, or a specified cleaning disc (LC-1, part code: 645 026 1961, manufactured by Sanyo). The cleaning procedure involves gently moving the swab from the inside to the outside of the lens in a whirlpool motion.
  • Tape Head Cleaning: Before making any adjustments to the cassette deck, it is essential to clean the heads, capstan, and pinch roller. This helps prevent audio degradation and ensures accurate tape operation.
  • Troubleshooting (What to do if...): The manual outlines a basic troubleshooting step for abnormal unit operation or display issues. If the unit is not functioning normally, users are advised to disconnect the mains lead, wait for at least 30 seconds, reconnect the mains lead, and then attempt to operate the unit again. This simple reset can often resolve minor glitches.
  • Laser Beam Safety Precaution: The CD player section utilizes a low-power laser device. Users are cautioned not to remove any covers or attempt to gain access to the inside of the product to ensure continued safety. All servicing should be referred to qualified personnel. The laser output is 0.6 mW Max. (Continuous Wave) with a wavelength of 790 nm.
  • Product Safety Notice: The manual emphasizes the importance of following all precautions during servicing. Components identified with specific symbols in the parts list and schematic diagrams are critical for safety and performance. When replacing such components, only designated replacement parts or parts with equivalent ratings (resistance, wattage, voltage) should be used. Leakage-current or resistance measurements must be performed on exposed parts to ensure they are acceptably insulated from the supply circuit before returning the product to the customer.
