19 NETWORK SECURITY
The networking capabilities of the EtherMeter are very basic. Therefore, the device is not designed
to be staged at network locations where it would be exposed to Internet threats.
When an EtherMeter is installed within an industrial network that features a Gateway to the Internet,
a firewall should be properly installed and configured to shield the EtherMeter, as well as all other
industrial controls, from the vagaries of unfiltered Internet traffic.
