Overview

This document describes the Scheppach MS132-42 SE Petrol Lawn Mower (self-propelled), a four-stroke, air-cooled engine-driven lawnmower designed for private use in domestic gardens and hobby areas.

Function Description

The MS132-42 SE is a self-propelled petrol lawnmower designed for efficient grass cutting. It features a cutting blade that rotates to cut grass, and a collection bag to gather the clippings. Alternatively, it can be used for mulching, where the cut grass is finely shredded and returned to the lawn as natural fertilizer. The self-propelled function reduces the effort required to push the mower, making it easier to operate across the lawn. An engine brake lever is integrated for safety, automatically stopping the engine and blade when released. The cutting height is adjustable to suit different grass lengths and preferences.

Usage Features

The lawnmower is delivered partially disassembled, requiring some assembly before first use. This includes attaching the upper and lower push bars using star grip nuts and screws, securing the pull start handle, and fixing the cables with cable clips. The grass box needs to be opened and its plastic clips positioned on the frame.

Starting the engine: Before starting, ensure the engine brake lever (3) is pulled towards the handle (1). The pull start handle (17) is then pulled vigorously to start the engine. It's crucial to note that the cutting blade rotates as soon as the starting rope is pulled, even with the motor brake lever disengaged. For easier starting in colder temperatures, the primer button (8) can be pressed.

Stopping the engine: To stop the engine, release the drive lever (2) and then the engine brake lever (3). The blade will come to a standstill automatically.

Cutting height adjustment: The cutting height is centrally adjusted using the cutting height adjustor lever (14). There are 7 different cutting heights available, ranging from 25 mm to 75 mm. The lever is pulled out and then snapped into the desired position.

Mowing with grass box: The discharge flap (15) is lifted with one hand, and the grass box (16) is hung in place. The grass box has a fill level indicator (Fig. 16); when the flap closes during mowing, the grass box is full and needs to be emptied.

Mulching: For mulching, the grass box (16) is removed, and the mulch insert (19) is inserted into the discharge opening. This feature is best used for relatively short grass.

Safety precautions: Always observe all safety instructions, including wearing ear-muffs and safety goggles. Do not mow on slopes uphill or downhill, and be particularly careful when changing direction on slopes. Remove debris from the lawn before mowing. Ensure other people, especially children and animals, maintain a safe distance from the mower. Never refuel when the engine is hot or running.

Maintenance Features

Regular and careful maintenance is essential to ensure the safety and performance of the device.

Oil level check: The oil level must be checked before each mowing session. The mower should be on a flat, level surface. The oil dipstick (12) is unscrewed, wiped clean, and reinserted without screwing it in. The oil level should be between the max and min marks on the dipstick. The engine is delivered without oil and must be filled with 0.4 liters of SAE 30 multigrade oil before first use.

Oil change: The engine oil should be changed annually before the start of the season, with the engine warm and switched off. The old oil is drained by tilting the mower, and fresh oil is filled up to the upper mark on the dipstick.

Fueling: The fuel tank (6) has a capacity of 0.8 liters and should be filled with regular unleaded petrol with a maximum of 5% bioethanol content. Always refuel outdoors and avoid smoking.

Blade maintenance: The cutting blade should be checked for sharpness and damage before each use. Blunt or damaged blades should be replaced as a set to prevent imbalance. Blade sharpening should be performed by an authorized specialist. When replacing the blade (Art. No.: 7911200620), always use original spare parts and wear gloves. The fastening screw should be tightened to 45 Nm.

Air filter maintenance: The air filter (7) should be checked every 25 operating hours and cleaned if necessary. A dirty air filter reduces engine performance. The foam filter is removed, cleaned (by tapping or compressed air, never with petrol), and reinserted.

Spark plug maintenance: The spark plug (10) should be checked for the first time after 10 operating hours and cleaned with a copper wire brush if necessary. Subsequent checks should be done every 50 operating hours. The electrode gap should be set to 0.75 mm using a feeler gauge.

Cleaning: The mower should be thoroughly cleaned after each use, especially the underside of the mower housing and the blade. Grass residues and dirt should be removed immediately after mowing. Never use a water jet or high-pressure cleaner on the engine. Aggressive cleaning agents should not be used.

Storage: Before long-term storage, the fuel tank should be emptied using a petrol suction pump, and the engine run until all remaining fuel is consumed. The engine oil should be changed. The spark plug should be removed, and approximately 20 ml of oil filled into the cylinder to protect it. The cylinder cooling fins and housing should be cleaned. Store the mower in a well-ventilated place.

Transport: For transport, the fuel tank and engine oil should be emptied, and the spark plug removed. The upper push bar (4) can be folded down after loosening the plastic star grip nuts (5). Cardboard can be placed between the upper and lower push bars and the engine to prevent chafing.
