Why will my Schumacher Electric Battery Charger not turn on even when properly connected?

      Nathaniel JenkinsJul 25, 2025
If your Schumacher Electric Battery Charger won't turn on when properly connected, it could be due to a dead AC outlet or a poor electrical connection. Check the AC outlet for an open fuse or circuit breaker. Also, inspect the power cord and any extension cords for loose-fitting plugs.

If the engine start function on your Schumacher Electric Battery Charger isn't working, there could be several reasons. First, the amount of current drawn may be more than the Engine Start rate, which can reduce crank time to less than 5 seconds. Also, you must wait 3 minutes (180 seconds) between cranks; if the Engine Start LED is blinking, allow the rest time before attempting another crank. The charger may be overheated, so ensure the vents are not blocked and wait for it to cool down. If the battery is severely discharged, use the Boost rate for 10 to 15 minutes before attempting to crank the engine.

If the red Clamps Reversed/Bad Battery LED is lit on your Schumacher Electric Battery Charger, it may indicate several issues. The battery voltage might still be under 10V after 2 hours of charging, suggesting the battery could be bad and needs checking or replacement. The charger might be unable to desulfate the battery, also requiring a check or replacement. Additionally, the battery may not have reached the 'full charge' voltage, possibly due to charging a large battery on too low of a current setting; try again with a higher current setting or have the battery checked. The charger might also be unable to keep the battery fully charged in maintain mode, potentially due to a drain on the battery or a bad battery; remove any loads on the battery. The charger may have detected that the bat...
