The spreader settings are guidelines only. The spreader should be calibrated
prior to application to ensure accuracy. The spreader settings are based on a
walking speed of 5 km/hour. Walking faster or slower than 5 km/hour
will alter the spread width and application rate. Exact rates are dependent
upon the spreader itself and the accuracy of the person operating it.

Overview

The Scotts AccuPro 2000 Rotary Spreader is a professional-grade device designed for precise and efficient application of granular products, primarily for turf care. Its robust construction and advanced features aim to ensure uniform and consistent spread patterns, making it suitable for both small and large areas.

Function Description

The primary function of the AccuPro 2000 is to accurately spread granular materials, such as fertilizers, seeds, and other turf products, over a designated area. It achieves this through a rotary spreading mechanism that disperses granules as the user pushes the spreader. The device allows for precise control over the application rate and spread pattern, which is crucial for achieving optimal results and preventing over or under-application of products. The patented Helical Cone is a key component in ensuring a uniform and consistent spread pattern, distributing granules evenly across the swath width.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Hopper Capacity: The spreader boasts a generous hopper capacity of 42 liters, allowing for extended operation without frequent refilling.
  • Construction Material: It features a galvanized steel frame, which contributes to its durability and resistance to corrosion, ensuring a long service life even with regular outdoor use.
  • Wheels: Equipped with larger pneumatic wheels, the spreader is designed for easier pushing, especially over uneven terrain. The absence of tread marks is an added benefit, preventing damage to turf.
  • Frame: A large diameter frame enhances the overall durability and stability of the spreader.
  • Handle: The extended handle measures 91 cm and is fitted with tuff-foam grips, providing added comfort for the operator during prolonged use.
  • Cover: A transparent cover is included to protect the product inside the hopper from rain and wind, maintaining the integrity of the granular material.
  • Application Rate Control: The device features a system for exact setting of application rates, accommodating both small and large granules. This is managed through a rate control plate and a cone setting mechanism.
  • Spread Pattern Control: The Helical Cone and cone setting mechanism allow for precise adjustment of the spread pattern, ensuring even distribution.

Usage Features

The AccuPro 2000 is designed for user-friendly operation with several features that enhance its usability and precision:

  • Single Pass Application: The manual provides detailed settings for single pass application at full rates, including cone settings, effective width, and specific letter/number settings for various Scotts products (e.g., Sierrablen, Sportsmaster, Sierraform GT). These settings correlate to the amount of product applied in grams per square meter.
  • Double Pass Application: Instructions are also provided for double pass application at half rates, which can be useful for achieving even greater precision or for specific product types.
  • Calibration: The spreader is factory calibrated, but instructions are given for occasional checks and adjustments to ensure continued accuracy. This involves setting the rate control plate to "E," pushing the main shutoff lever to OPEN, and using a calibration key to verify the port hole alignment. If recalibration is needed, steps involve loosening the rate control knob, sliding the plate, and adjusting the pointer.
  • Rate Setting: The application rate is adjusted by loosening the rate control knob and sliding the rate control plate to the desired letter, as indicated on the product bag.
  • Cone Setting: The spread pattern is controlled by rotating the index tab on the orange helical cone to the desired number, also found on the product bag.
  • Operation Sequence: Users are instructed to pull the main shutoff lever to the closed position before filling the hopper. Spreading begins by rolling the spreader forward before opening the ports and closing them before stopping, to prevent uneven application.
  • Walking Speed: The recommended walking speed for optimal spreading is 5 km/hour (a brisk walking pace). Deviations from this speed can alter the spread width and application rate.
  • Level Operation: Holding the handle so that the hopper remains level is crucial for even spreading; tipping the spreader too far forward or backward will cause uneven distribution.
  • Forward Direction Only: Material should only be applied while pushing the spreader forward, not while pulling.
  • Test Area: It is recommended to test the rate and pattern on a small area before treating a large area, as actual application rates can vary depending on weather, spreader condition, and walking speed.
  • Recommended Walking Pattern: The manual illustrates an optimum walking pattern for half-rate and double-pass applications, starting at one end and making parallel passes.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential for the longevity and performance of the AccuPro 2000:

  • Cleaning: After each use, the spreader should be emptied, thoroughly washed, and dried in a sunny or heated area to prevent moisture-caused clumping and corrosion. All residue should be cleaned from the rotor plate.
  • Lubrication:
    • Periodically grease the axle bearing housings using a grease gun, as indicated in the assembly instructions.
    • Apply a small amount of grease to the gear teeth.
    • Periodically oil the pivot points on the main shutoff/rate control linkage and the spring inside the rate control housing.
    • Grease the gear carrier fittings.
  • Inspection: Periodically clean and inspect the gears by removing the gearbox cover halves. Ensure gearbox cover halves are reinstalled prior to use.
  • Tire Pressure: Maintain tire pressure at a maximum of 20 psi.
  • Axle Assembly: If the axle requires disassembly, it must be reassembled so the drive wheel attaches on the right side. Incorrect assembly will result in the rotor plate not rotating in a counter-clockwise direction, leading to incorrect spread patterns.
  • Hopper Cover: The provided transparent hopper cover should be used to protect turf product from light rain or windy conditions during transportation.
