Overview

The Sena Latitude SR is a smart snow helmet designed for snow sports, integrating Bluetooth communication capabilities for enhanced user experience. It is crucial to understand that this helmet is specifically intended for snow sports and should not be used for any other purpose, as it may not provide adequate protection in different types of accidents. Sena emphasizes the importance of choosing a helmet that offers maximum coverage and ensuring it fits comfortably and is securely fastened at all times.

Function Description

The primary function of the Sena Latitude SR is to provide head protection during snow sports while offering integrated Bluetooth communication. This includes:

  • Bluetooth Intercom: The helmet allows for two-way and multi-way intercom conversations with up to three other paired Bluetooth systems. This feature enables conference-call-style communication, temporarily disconnecting mobile phone connections during multi-way intercoms, which are reestablished once the intercom terminates. The HD Intercom feature enhances audio quality for two-way intercoms, automatically disabling when entering a multi-way intercom.
  • Group Intercom: This feature allows for the instant creation of a multi-way conference intercom with up to three of the most recently paired headsets, simplifying group communication.
  • Mobile Phone Usage: The helmet can be paired with a mobile phone to make and answer calls, as well as use voice dialer functions.
  • Stereo Music: Users can stream Bluetooth stereo music, with controls for play/pause, next track, and previous track.
  • FM Radio: An integrated FM radio allows users to listen to radio stations, navigate preset stations, and seek and save new stations. The FM Station Guide provides voice prompts for frequencies when enabled, and the RDS AF Setting allows the receiver to re-tune to alternative frequencies if the primary signal weakens.

Usage Features

The Sena Latitude SR is designed for ease of use with intuitive controls and clear indicators:

  • Button Function: The helmet features a Sena Button, a (+) Button, and a (-) Button for controlling various functions. A Status LED provides visual feedback on the device's status.
  • Powering On and Off: The helmet can be easily powered on by holding the (+) and (-) buttons for 1 second, and powered off by holding the Sena Button for 1 second.
  • Charging: The Bluetooth system charges via a DC Power Charging & Firmware Upgrade Port using a USB Power & Data Cable. It takes approximately 3 hours for a full charge. The system automatically turns off during charging. It is compatible with 5V/1A input USB-charged devices and any 3rd party USB charger approved by relevant agencies.
  • Battery Level Check: The battery level can be checked visually upon powering on (indicated by a series of red and blue lights) or audibly (voice prompts for "Battery level high/medium/low") by holding the (+) button for 3 seconds.
  • Volume Adjustment: Volume is independently set and maintained for each audio source, even after rebooting the Bluetooth system. Volume can be adjusted up by tapping the (+) button and down by tapping the (-) button.
  • Pairing with Bluetooth Devices: The helmet can be paired with mobile phones and other Bluetooth devices. Phone pairing can be initiated either when the Latitude SR is turned off (holding (+) and (-) buttons for 5 seconds) or when it's turned on (holding the Sena Button for 10 seconds). Intercom pairing involves holding the Sena Button of two Bluetooth systems for 5 seconds until they flash red, then tapping the Sena Button on either device.
  • Firmware Upgrades: The Bluetooth system supports firmware upgrades via the Sena Device Manager, which can be downloaded from sena.com.
  • Configuration Settings: Settings can be changed through the Sena Device Manager or the Sena Outdoor App, allowing customization of features like RDS AF and FM Station Guide.
  • Sena Outdoor App: This mobile application provides a convenient interface for managing intercom, music, FM radio, device settings, and accessing quick start and user guides.
  • Sena Device Manager: A desktop application for PC or Apple computers that allows firmware upgrades and configuration of settings.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and protective capabilities of the Sena Latitude SR helmet:

  • Cleaning: The inner lining of the helmet is completely removable and can be hand-washed with water and mild soap at a maximum temperature of 30°C (86°F). Non-abrasive cloths should be used to clean the helmet's shell, pads, and retention system. All padding should be allowed to dry at room temperature.
  • Storage: The helmet should be stored in a dry, dark, well-ventilated location, away from children and animals. High temperatures (above 110°F, 43°C) can melt the helmet's shell. It should always be positioned so it cannot fall to the floor.
  • Substance Avoidance: Never use gasoline, diesel fuel, thinners, or solvents to clean the helmet, as these substances can cause serious, potentially invisible damage. The helmet should not be used if it has been exposed to such substances.
  • Damage Inspection: In the event of any impact, the helmet should not be used. There may be invisible damage that reduces its protective ability. Such a helmet should be returned to Sena for inspection or destroyed and replaced. Do not use heat-damaged helmets, which may appear uneven or bubbly.
  • Modifications: Do not modify or remove any original part of the helmet. Attaching anything to the helmet, such as mirrors or lights, is also not recommended.
  • Fitment Check: Regularly check for proper fit and adjustment, including each time the helmet is worn. The chinstrap and retention system should be tightened until the helmet resists movement when rolled forward and backward. If a proper fit cannot be achieved, the helmet should not be used and should be replaced with a different size.
  • Useful Life: The protective capability of the helmet diminishes over time due to factors like dents, dings, pollution, chemical exposure, and sun exposure. Sena recommends replacing helmets after five years, or sooner if exposed to sunlight, rough handling/storage, dents, cuts, or heavy use.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Fault Reset: Connecting the USB charging & data cable to a power supply will automatically turn off the Bluetooth system and perform a fault reset. This does not restore factory default settings.
    • Factory Reset: To erase all settings and restore the Bluetooth system to factory defaults, a factory reset can be performed.
