Overview

This document describes the Sencor SWK 1700WH / SWK 1701BK / SWK 1704RD electric kettle, providing instructions for its function, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Sencor electric kettle is designed primarily for heating water. It operates by converting electrical energy into heat, bringing water to a boil efficiently. The kettle is equipped with a heating element that retains residual heat after use. It features an I/O switch (On/Off) for controlling its operation and an automatic shut-off mechanism that activates once the water reaches boiling point. A key safety feature is the protection against boiling without water, where a thermostat interrupts the electric circuit if the kettle is accidentally turned on empty. This prevents damage to the appliance. The kettle also includes a removable filtration strainer, which serves to capture limescale and prevent it from entering your cup with the water.

Usage Features

Before using the kettle for the first time, it is essential to remove all wrapping material from both the kettle and its base stand. To prepare the kettle for initial use, fill it with clean water up to the maximum mark (MAX), boil the water, and then empty the contents. This process should be repeated two to three times.

To operate the kettle, first, set the required power cord length and push it into the groove in the base stand. Always place the base stand on a stable, even, and clean surface. The kettle is intended only for heating water; never heat any other liquids or substances in it.

Fill the kettle with the desired amount of water. Water can be added either through the spout or by lifting the lid. To open the lid, press the dedicated open lid button (A5). Ensure that the water level is at least the minimum mark (MIN) but does not exceed the maximum mark (MAX). After filling, securely close the lid. It is crucial never to fill the kettle when it is already placed on the base stand.

Once filled, place the kettle on its base stand and insert the power plug into a power socket. To start the kettle, set the I/O switch (A6) to the 'I' (On) position. An important safety note is to never start the kettle empty without water, as this can negatively affect its working order and lifetime, even with the built-in protection. When the water begins to boil, the kettle will automatically turn off, and any associated backlight will extinguish. If you need to stop the kettle at any time before it automatically turns off, simply set the switch (A6) to the 'O' (off) position.

When pouring boiled water, hold the kettle upright, especially when it is filled to the maximum mark, to avoid spills and potential scalding. If you wish to refill and reheat the kettle immediately after pouring, allow approximately 30-60 seconds for it to cool slightly. Exercise extreme caution when opening the lid after boiling, as hot water or steam can cause scalding. After use, disconnect the power cord from the socket, empty the kettle, and allow it to cool down.

The appliance is designed for domestic use and similar locations, including kitchens in stores, offices, and other workplaces; in agriculture; for guests of hotels, motels, and similar accommodations; and in bed and breakfast establishments. Children aged 8 years and older, and persons with physical or mental impairments or inexperience, may use the appliance if properly supervised and informed about safe usage and potential dangers. The appliance and its power cord must be kept out of reach of children younger than 8 years of age, and children must not play with the appliance.

Never wash the appliance under running water or submerge it in water or any other liquid. If the kettle is overfilled, boiling water could splash out. Do not open the lid while the kettle is running or while water is boiling. Ensure no water or liquid splashes on the power plug or socket, and keep hot steam away. If this occurs, disengage the circuit breaker, then carefully dry the socket and plug before further use. The surfaces that contact food must be cleaned according to the instructions in this manual. Incorrect use may lead to injuries.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the Sencor electric kettle. Before any cleaning or maintenance, always disconnect the base stand from the power socket and allow the kettle to cool down completely. It is important never to wash the kettle, its base stand, or the power cord under running water, nor to submerge them in water or any other liquid.

For cleaning the external parts of the kettle, use a dry cloth or a cloth lightly dampened with a weak solution of neutral kitchen detergent. Avoid using solvents, cleaning products with an abrasive effect, or any other harsh chemical agents. After washing, wipe the surface with a clean, lightly dampened cloth, and then dry it thoroughly.

The internal parts of the kettle should be cleaned using a soft sponge or a clean cloth dipped in clean warm water. Do not use detergents or any other chemical agents on the internal surfaces. After cleaning, rinse the kettle several times with clean water. The base stand should only be cleaned with a dry cloth.

The removable filtration strainer, which traps limescale, should be cleaned regularly. Rinse the filter under running water, using a fine nylon brush if necessary. Alternatively, you can submerge it for several hours in a vinegar-water solution (recommended dilution ratio 1:2). After soaking, rinse the filter thoroughly under running water.

Limescale deposits are a common occurrence due to substances in water accumulating over time. These deposits can negatively affect the kettle's lifetime and the taste of beverages. Regular removal of limescale is therefore important. For frequent use (3 to 5 times per day), it is recommended to remove water scale deposits monthly in areas with hard and very hard water, and every two to three months in areas with soft and medium hard water.

Limescale deposits can be removed using standard descaling products according to the manufacturer's instructions. Alternatively, you can use an 8% white vinegar solution: fill the kettle with 1 liter of water and ½ liter of vinegar, bring the solution to a boil, and let it act in the kettle for 2 hours. Then, empty the kettle and boil clean water four to five times before further use. Another method involves citric acid: boil 1 liter of water in the kettle, add 30g of citric acid to the boiled water, and allow the solution to act for about 30 minutes. Empty the kettle and boil clean water four to five times before further use.

In the event of a damaged power cord, it must be repaired at a professional service center to prevent dangerous situations. It is forbidden to use the appliance if it has a damaged power cord. Do not attempt to repair the kettle yourself to avoid electrical shock or voiding the warranty. All repairs should be carried out by an authorized service center. Do not use the kettle if it is not functioning correctly, has fallen, been submerged in water, shows visible signs of damage, or is leaking. In such cases, it should be handed over to an authorized service center for inspection or repair.
