Overview

The SEP LEM012SJ is a DIN rail single-phase two-wire energy meter designed for measuring electrical energy consumption (kWh). It features a digital display and is suitable for use in various applications, from residential to commercial settings. The meter operates at 230V with a current rating of 5(80)A and a frequency of 50Hz, adhering to Class 1 accuracy standards.

Function Description

The LEM012SJ measures and displays the total energy consumed in kilowatt-hours (kWh) using a 7+1 digit LCD display with a white backlight. This total energy data is non-resettable by the user, ensuring continuous tracking of consumption. The meter is equipped with two indicator LEDs: a POWER LED and a PULSE LED. The POWER LED illuminates when the meter is connected to a power supply and functioning correctly, turning off if there's a fault or no power. The PULSE LED flashes to indicate active energy consumption; a faster flash rate signifies higher consumption. The flash rate is 500 impulses per kWh (2.0Wh/imp), providing a visual representation of energy usage.

Additionally, the LEM012SJ includes a pulse output feature, which is fully isolated from the internal circuitry. This output generates pulses proportional to the measured energy, allowing for remote reading and accuracy testing. The pulse output is a polarity-dependent, passive transistor output that requires an external voltage source (5-27V DC) with a maximum input current of 27mA DC. This enables integration with other systems for data logging or building management.

The meter also incorporates diagnostic features. If the meter is connected incorrectly, with the incoming and outgoing lines reversed, the LCD display will show "HELP 1" every 3 seconds to alert the user to the wiring error. Upon power-up, the meter briefly displays its software version for 3 seconds, such as "UI.00".

Usage Features

The LEM012SJ is designed for DIN rail mounting (35mm) and should be installed in a dry, well-ventilated location, ideally within a protection box in dusty or dangerous environments. For outdoor installations, a waterproof meter box is required. It is crucial to ensure that the connecting wires are appropriately sized according to local codes and the circuit breaker's ampacity. An external switch or circuit breaker, serving as a disconnection device, must be installed on the inlet wire close to the meter. Similarly, an overcurrent protection device (fuse or thermal cut-off) must be installed on the supply side wire, also near the meter.

The meter's LCD display provides clear readings of total energy consumption. The POWER LED confirms operational status, while the PULSE LED gives a real-time visual indication of energy usage intensity. The pulse output allows for integration into larger energy monitoring systems, providing flexibility for data collection and analysis.

Maintenance Features

Maintenance and repair of the LEM012SJ must only be performed by qualified personnel familiar with applicable codes and regulations. It is imperative to use isolated tools during any work on the meter. Before commencing any work, all power supplying the energy meter and associated equipment must be turned off and locked out, and a voltage sensing device should be used to confirm power is off.

The meter is sealed, and breaking these seals or opening the front cover will void the warranty and may affect the meter's functionality and accuracy. The protection cover must always be placed after installation or maintenance. The warranty period is 12 months from the date of purchase, covering only construction faults. Physical impact or dropping the meter should be avoided, as it contains high-precision components that can be damaged.

Troubleshooting guidance is provided for common issues:

  • No light for the Power supply indicator: Check AC power supply connection, verify correct wiring of terminals 1 and 4, and ensure 230V 50Hz AC voltage is present. If issues persist, contact a qualified technician.
  • No light for the consumption indicator (pulse red): Confirm that a load is running. If the operating power is too low, the LED flash interval will be prolonged, which might give the impression it's not working. If necessary, contact a qualified technician.
  • The register can't run: Check if power is supplied to the meter and if the operating power is too low. If the problem persists, a fault in the internal circuit might be present, requiring a qualified technician.
  • LCD backlight can't lit: Verify power supply to the meter. If there's an internal circuit fault, contact a qualified technician.
  • No pulse output: Check if the external DC power supply (5-27V DC) is connected to the meter and ensure correct wiring (anode to connector 20, cathode to connector 21). If the issue remains, an internal circuit fault may be present, requiring professional assistance.
