Problem Cause Correction
Upper thread breaks
1. The machine is not threaded correctly.
2. Th
e thread tension is too tight.
3. Th
e thread is too thick for the needle.

e needle is not inserted correctly.

e thread is wound around the spool

e needle is damaged.

ethread the machine.
2. R
educe the thread tension (lower

er).

emove and reinsert the needle (flat

Lower thread breaks
1. The bobbin case is not inserted

rectly.

e bobbin is damaged and doesn’t
turn smoothly.

emove and reinsert the bobbin case
and p
ull on the thread. The thread should
pull easily.

heck both the bobbin and the bobbin
case.

lean the bobbin case.
4. C
hange the bobbin.
Skipped stitches
1. The needle is not inserted properly.
2. Th
e needle is damaged.
3. Th
e wrong size and/or type of needle is

d.

e presser foot is not attached
properly.

emove and reinsert the needle (flat side
towar
ds the back).

nsert a new needle.

hoose a needle to suit the thread and
fabric being us
ed.

heck the presser foot and attach
properly.
Needle breaks
1. The needle is damaged.
2. Th
e needle is not correctly inserted.
3. Th
e needle clamp screw is loose.
4. Th
e tension of the upper thread is too
ti
ght.

rong needle size for fabric.

e pattern selector dial was turned
while th
e needle was still in the fabric.

eplace with a new needle.

einstall the needle correctly (flat side

hten the needle clamp screw.

o not pull on the fabric while sewing, let

n in by the machine.
The machine is noisy
1. The machine needs to be lubricated.

luff or oil have collected on the hook or
needl
e bar.

oor quality oil has been used.

e needle is damaged.

ubricate the machine.

lean the hook and feed dog as
described.
3. Use only goo
d quality sewing machine
oil.

eplace the needle.
The machine jams or

1. Thread is caught in the hook race.

lutch knob is disengaged for the
bobbi
n winding.

emove thee upper thread and the
bobbi
n case. Turn the hand wheel
backwa
rds and forwards by hand and
remove th
e thread remains. Lubricate as
described.

lug the power cord into the power
so
urce.
3. E
ngage the clutch knob.
