Overview

This document provides a quick start guide for a Shark Powered Lift-Away vacuum cleaner, outlining its assembly, basic operation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Shark Powered Lift-Away is a versatile vacuum cleaner designed for both floor and above-floor cleaning. Its primary function is to remove dirt and debris from various surfaces, including thick carpets, low-pile carpets, area rugs, and hard floors. The "Lift-Away" feature allows the user to detach the main pod from the floor nozzle, transforming the upright vacuum into a portable unit for cleaning hard-to-reach areas. It also includes specialized attachments for different cleaning tasks, such as a Hard Floor Hero™ attachment, crevice tool, pet power brush, and pet multi-tool, enhancing its adaptability for diverse cleaning needs.

Usage Features

The vacuum cleaner offers a straightforward assembly process. Users begin by inserting the wand into the motorized floor nozzle, which clicks into place. Next, the handle is inserted into the wand, also clicking securely. The main pod is then placed onto the wand and slides down to connect. Finally, the hose is connected to the back of the pod, ensuring it clicks into place. Accessories can be conveniently stored on posts located on the pod.

For floor cleaning, the user plugs in the vacuum and gently places their foot on the floor nozzle to tilt the handle back. The vacuum features a power switch with multiple settings to accommodate different floor types: "Thick Carpet & Area Rug Cleaning" for deep pile surfaces, "Carpet and Low-Pile Cleaning" for general carpet and rug cleaning, and "Hard-Floor Cleaning" for hard surfaces. For optimal deep cleaning on carpets (per ASTM F 608), the recommended setting is "Carpet/Low Pile" with the suction control set to MAX.

The "Powered Lift-Away" mode is a key feature for extended reach and versatility. By pressing the "Lift-Away" button, the user can lift the pod off the floor nozzle, allowing them to carry the portable unit to clean elevated or difficult-to-access areas. For above-floor cleaning with the handle, it can be detached from the wand by pressing the "Handle" button. To achieve an even longer reach, the wand itself can be detached from the floor nozzle by pressing the "Wand Release" button. Once the handle or wand is detached, any of the specialized cleaning accessories can be attached to them, enabling targeted cleaning of upholstery, stairs, or tight spaces.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the vacuum's optimal performance, and the guide provides clear instructions for dust cup emptying and filter cleaning.

Dust Cup Maintenance:

The dust cup should be emptied after each use. To do this, the user pulls up on the dust cup release latch and lifts the dust cup off the pod. Holding the dust cup over a trash bin, the empty-release latch on the bottom is pressed to release the contents. Additionally, the top dust-cup release latch can be pressed to access the dust screen, allowing for the removal of any built-up debris.

Filter Cleaning:

The vacuum includes multiple filters that require periodic cleaning to maintain strong suction.

  • Pre-Motor Filters (Foam and Felt): These filters are located with the dust cup removed. The foam and felt filters should be taken out and rinsed with water every 3 months. Between washes, users can tap loose dirt from the foam filters as needed. It is essential to allow these filters to air-dry completely before reinserting them.
  • Post-Motor Filter (HEPA): To access the HEPA filter, the user needs to reach under the grill and pull the "Filter Access" latch to remove the grill. The HEPA filter should then be removed, rinsed, and allowed to air-dry completely before being reinstalled.

Brushroll Maintenance:

The brushroll also requires maintenance to prevent performance issues caused by tangled debris. To access the brushroll, a coin can be used to open the three locks on the bottom of the floor nozzle. A portion of the base is hinged, providing better access to the brushroll and the airway. Any string, carpet fibers, or hair wrapped around the brushroll should be carefully removed. To reassemble, the base is replaced by aligning it along the front nozzle, rotating it closed, and locking the three locks.

This comprehensive guide ensures users can effectively assemble, operate, and maintain their Shark Powered Lift-Away vacuum cleaner for consistent cleaning performance.
