The Shark Powered Lift-Away UV810 is a versatile upright vacuum cleaner designed for comprehensive home cleaning, offering both traditional upright and portable Lift-Away modes. Its primary function is to effectively remove dust, dirt, and debris from various floor types and above-floor surfaces.
The vacuum features DuoClean™ technology, which incorporates two brushrolls working in unison in the floor nozzle. This design is engineered to deep clean carpets by removing embedded dirt and to directly engage hard floors, picking up both fine dust and large debris without scattering. The front soft roller pulls in larger particles and fine dust, while the bristle brushroll handles deeper carpet cleaning.
For general floor cleaning, the vacuum operates in an upright mode. Users can select from different surface settings: "Hard Floor" for bare floors, "Carpet / Low Pile" for carpets and rugs, and "Thick Carpet / Area Rug" for deeper cleaning on thicker pile carpets. The brushrolls activate when the vacuum is reclined, indicated by a solid green brushroll indicator light, signifying they are working correctly. If the light turns solid red, it indicates a jam in the brushroll or soft roller area, requiring the user to turn off the vacuum and clear any blockages. A flashing red light suggests the motorized floor nozzle is overheating, prompting the user to turn off the vacuum and allow it to cool down.
The Lift-Away feature is a key usage aspect, allowing the user to detach the main pod from the floor nozzle. This transforms the upright vacuum into a portable canister-style vacuum, maintaining full power to the motorized floor nozzle. This mode is particularly useful for cleaning stairs, under furniture, and in other tight spaces where a full upright vacuum might be cumbersome. In Lift-Away mode, the handle can be released for short-reach cleaning, or the wand can be released for extended reach, allowing various accessories to be attached directly to either the handle or the wand.
A range of compatible accessories enhances the vacuum's versatility. These include a Mini Motorized Brush for pet hair and deep cleaning upholstery, a Pet Power Brush for ground-in dirt on carpeted stairs, a Multi-Angle Dusting Brush for cleaning shelves, blinds, and walls at different angles, and a Duster Crevice Tool that combines extended reach for small spaces with a soft dusting brush for various surfaces. Other tools like the Caddy, Pet Multi-Tool, 18" Flexi Crevice Tool, and Under Appliance Wand further expand its cleaning capabilities, allowing users to tackle tough pet messes, reach tight corners, and clean under large appliances and furniture.
Maintenance is crucial for optimal performance. The dust cup should be emptied regularly by pulling up the release latch and pressing the bottom latch over a trash bin. For a thorough cleaning, the top dust-cup empty latch can be pressed to access and remove built-up debris from the dust screen.
Filters require routine cleaning to maintain suction power. The pre-motor foam and felt filters (XFF680) should be rinsed with water every three months, and loose dirt should be tapped off between washes. The post-motor HEPA filter (XHF680) needs to be rinsed once a year. It's important to note that only water should be used for cleaning filters, and they must be allowed to air-dry completely for at least 24 hours before being reinserted into the vacuum. Soap should not be used on the HEPA filter.
The brushrolls also need regular maintenance. The brushroll garage lid can be opened by pressing two buttons on the floor nozzle. The brushroll can then be lifted out by its tab, and any wrapped string, hair, or debris can be removed using the onboard hair removal tool, located in a compartment above the brushroll. After cleaning, the brushroll is reinstalled, and the lid is pressed down until it clicks into place. Similarly, the soft roller can be accessed by sliding its access button up. Any debris can be removed with the hair removal tool, or by tapping it off or wiping it with a dry towel. The soft roller can also be washed with water and must air-dry for at least 24 hours before reinsertion.
To check for blockages in the nozzle, the neck of the nozzle can be tilted back to straighten the airway, and a long object can be inserted into the nozzle connector to clear any obstructions. Users are advised to check for blockages in the hose, hose connections, and accessories if suction is poor. Before any servicing or maintenance, the vacuum must be turned off and unplugged to prevent electric shock or unintended operation. The power cord and plug should also be inspected for damage before each use.
