What to do if my Shindaiwa Trimmer engine does not start?
- BBobby GarnerAug 16, 2025
If your Shindaiwa Trimmer's engine won't start, several factors could be the cause. First, ensure the ignition switch is in the Start position. If the spark plug is loose, tighten it and try again. Check the fuel; if it's old, contaminated, or the mixture is off, refill with fresh, clean unleaded gasoline (89 octane or higher) mixed at a 50:1 ratio with 2-cycle air-cooled mixing oil meeting ISO-L-EGD and/or JASO FC, FD standards. Inspect and replace the fuel filter or vent if clogged. If the spark plug is wet, remove it, crank the engine, reinstall the plug, and restart. If the plug is fouled or gapped incorrectly, clean and regap it to 0.6 mm. If damaged or the wrong size, replace it with an NGK CMR5H or equivalent resistor type spark plug, gapped at 0.6 mm.
