Firmware Update via HW Config for Analog Input Module SM; 331 AI 6 x TC
Introduction
Based on compatible feature enhancements, you can upgrade the AI 6 TC module to the latest firmware version.
The most recent firmware version is available from your Siemens representative or on the Internet:
http://www.siemens.com/automation/service&support
Requirements
● STEP 7 V 5.4, SP4 (HSP0158) or higher
● If the AI 6 TC module is inserted in a central rack, the firmware update must be performed when the CPU is in STOP
mode. If the CPU is in RUN mode, unexpected behavior can occur and a power cycle is required to access the module
again.
● If the AI 6 TC module is inserted as a distributed module within ET200M, the firmware update can be performed when
the CPU is in RUN mode.
Updating firmware
Firmware can be updated for a central or distributed module with the IM 153 .
1. Select the AI 6 TC module in HW Config.
2. Select the PLC > Update Firmware menu command.
3. Use the "Browse" button to select the path to the firmware files (*.upd).
4. Click the "Run" button.
– The module performs the firmware update.

Note
● During the firmware update, OB 83 (Insert/remove module interrupt), OB 85 (program execution error), and OB 86 (loss
of rack fault) are called. If the diagnostic interrupt of the module is enabled, OB 82 is also called during the firmware
update. Make sure that the OBs are programmed accordingly.
● If the SF LED on the module is flashing, the firmware update experienced an error and must be repeated. In this case,
the bootloader version Ex.x.x is displayed in the online diagnostics.
● Firmware update through HW Config is not allowed when the AI 6 x TC module is used in redundant mode.
Labelling the firmware
After the firmware update, you must identify the firmware version on the module.
