satin stitching
Adjusting Stitch Length
Satin stitching—a series of closely spaced
zig-zag stitches that form a smooth, satin
like surface—is useful for both practical
and decorative work.
When you wish to produce a satin stitch
for appliqué or bar tacks, for example,
make a test sample first so that you can
adjust the stitch length and thread tension
properly. Soft fabrics may require a back
ing to ensure firm satin stitching.

Adjusting Thread Tension
Adjusting Stitch Length
1. Turn stitch length selector dial to 1
(the beginning of 0-1 area).
2. Run machine at a slow speed.
3. Gradually turn the stitch length dial
clockwise until stitches are closely
spaced and form a smooth surface.
Adjusting Thread Tension
Satin stitching requires less tension than
straight stitching or open zig-zag stitch
ing. Futrhermore, the wider the stitch, the
lighter the tension on the thread must be.
Notice the stitching oh your sample. If the
fabric is puckered, lower the needle-
thread tension by turning the tension dial
to a lower number.
