The
take-up
spring

should
usually
have
just
enough
movement
so
that
it
will
be
through
acting
and
will
rest
against
upper
end
of
spring
reg¬
ulator
R2
when
needle
is
1/16
inch
above
material
on
its
downward
stroke.
The
spring
should
act
a
slight
amount
as
the
thread
passes
around
the
bottom
of
the
hook
and
also
as
the
thread
is
cast
off
the
hook.
To
set
take-up
spring,
loosen
set
screw
and,
by
means
of
stud
U2,
position
spring
regulator
required.
Then
tighten
screw
T2.
T2
as
TO
ADJUST
THE
BOBBIN
CASE
OPENER
Remove
slide
plate
and
loosen
hook
post
screws
N2,

Set
bobbin
case
opener
P2
so
that
it
touches
the
bobbin
case
Q2
as
lightly
as
pos¬
sible,
yet
turns
the
bobbin
case
enough
to
make
a
suf¬
ficient
opening
for
free
thread
passage
between
throat
plate
and
bobbin
case.
Then
tighten
screws
N2
and
replace
slide
plate.

To
regulate
tension
on
take-up
spring,
first
be
sure
screw
T2
is
tight.
Then
turn
stud
U2
over
to
the
left
to
increase
tension
or
over
to
therightto
de¬
crease’
tension.
The
take-up
spring
may
require
different
ten¬
sion
settings
for
different
sizes
of
thread;
heavy
thread
requires
more
tension
than
light
thread.
The
above
instructions
apply
to
average
sew¬
ing.
Adjustments
in
both
stroke
and
tension
may
have
to
be
made
to
suit
special
conditions.
