Overview

The Lincoln FlowMaster 24 V DC Rotary driven electric pump, Series "B," is designed for centralized lubrication systems, including Single Line Parallel, Single Line Progressive, and Two Line systems. It uses a 24 V DC motor with either a single or two-stage planetary gear drive. Grease output is directly proportional to the pump's revolutions per minute (rpm). The pump operates by converting the motor's rotary motion into reciprocating motion through an eccentric crank mechanism, causing the pump cylinder to move up and down. It functions as a positive displacement, double-acting pump, delivering grease during both the up and down strokes. The pump motor includes an integral speed control that can reduce the pump speed to 10% of its maximum value.

Function Description:

The FlowMaster pump is primarily used to pump and dispense lubricants. During the down stroke, the pump cylinder extends into the grease, and through a combination of shovel action and vacuum, grease is forced into the pump cylinder. Simultaneously, grease is discharged through the pump's outlet. The volume of grease taken in during intake is twice the amount of grease output during one cycle. During the upstroke, the inlet check closes, and half of the grease taken in during the previous stroke is transferred through the outlet check and discharged to the outlet port.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Operating Temperature: -40 to +150 °F (-40 to +66 °C)
  • Operating Voltage: 24 V DC (18 V DC min., 32 V DC max.)
  • Motor: 1/3 HP (0.25 kW)
  • Output/Pump Cycle: 0.07 cu. in. (1.51 cu. cm)
  • Pump Outlets: 1/4 in. NPT female
  • Weight: 30 lbs. (13.3 kg)
  • Maximum Rated Outlet Pressure: 5,000 psi (345 bar) for most models; 2,500 psi (172 bar) for Model 85569. Exceeding this pressure can damage system components and cause personal injury.
  • No High-Pressure Shut-Off Valve: Pumps are not equipped with a high-pressure shut-off valve, necessitating external safety measures.
  • Crankcase Oil: SAE 10W30 motor oil (15 oz. [443 ml]) for ambient temperatures between -40 to 150 °F (-40 to 66 °C). Mobil Arrow HFA Low Temperature oil for temperatures between –70 to 50 °F (-57 to 10 °C).

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The pump should be securely mounted on the drum cover to prevent movement or vibration. A material supply line connects to the pump outlet, and a safety unloader (e.g., 272722 or 272572) and a high-pressure shut-off valve are required in the material supply line. The motor is polarity sensitive, requiring the red motor lead to be connected to the positive side of the circuit. The motor should be fused as recommended in the tables.
  • Start-Up: Before initial operation, the pump outlet line should be removed, and the pump energized with a full container of lubricant to expel air and ensure even lubricant flow. The pump should never run dry of lubricant.
  • Speed Adjustment: The 24 V DC FlowMaster pump features a built-in speed control, factory-set to maximum. The speed can be adjusted in the field by turning a small brass potentiometer adjustment screw counterclockwise to reduce motor speed. The screw has 30 turns of total travel, and the motor speed should not be reduced below 200 rpm.
  • Safety: Extreme caution is advised due to very high grease pressure. Material leaks from loose or ruptured components can cause serious bodily injury through fluid injection. Adequate protection (e.g., preventing splashing onto skin or eyes) is recommended. In case of fluid penetration, immediate medical care is necessary.

Maintenance Features:

  • Inspection: If over-pressurization is suspected, the pump should be inspected by a factory-authorized warranty and service center. Specialized equipment and knowledge are required for repairs beyond routine maintenance. Annual inspection by a factory-authorized center is recommended.
  • Damaged Pumps: Any damaged, badly worn, or abnormally operating pump must be removed from service until repaired by a factory-authorized center.
  • Crankcase Oil Service:
    • Check Oil Level: Every 750 hours of machine operation or monthly.
    • Change Oil: Every 2,000 hours of machine operation or yearly.
    • The oil level should be at the dot on the dipstick (middle of the crankshaft).
  • Repair Kits: The manual provides detailed repair kits for converting Series "A" to Series "B" pumps and for repairing Series "B" pumps only. These kits include components like upper and lower bushing & plunger kits, pivot pin & anchor kits, housing cover kits, and soft parts kits.
  • Troubleshooting: A comprehensive troubleshooting guide helps identify possible causes and corrective actions for common issues such as the pump not running, running erratically, low output, weepage, noise, or failure to build pressure.
  • Tools Required: A list of specific tools is provided for maintenance, repair, and adjustment, including various wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and specialized tools from kit 276275.
  • Disassembly and Reassembly: The manual includes step-by-step instructions with illustrations for disassembling and reassembling various pump components, such as the motor, adaptor shaft, gearbox, housing cover, pump shaft, plunger tube, check seat, crank rod/eccentric assembly, and ball bearings. Specific torque values for reassembly are provided. Loctite 242 or equivalent is recommended for certain screw threads.
  • Parts Replacement: Recommendations for replacing O-rings, seals, gaskets, and backup washers during reassembly are given to ensure proper function and prevent leaks.
