1. Introduction
TheSKFTIH030minductionheaterisdesignedtoheatbearingsthataremountedwith
aninterferencetontoashaft.Theheatcausesthebearingtoexpand,whicheliminates
theneedtouseforceduringinstallation.A90°C(162°F)temperaturedifference
betweenthebearingandshaftisgenerallysufcienttoenableinstallation.Atanambient
temperatureof20°C(68°F),thebearingmustthereforebeheatedto110°C(230°F).
1.1 Intended use
TheTIH030mhasbeendesignedtoheatrollingbearings.However,other
metalworkpiecesthatformaclosedcircuitcanalsobeheated.Examplesofacceptable
workpiecesincludebushings,shrinkrings,pulleys,andgears.Allbearingsthattoverthe
inductivecoilandbetweentheverticalsupportswiththetopyokeinplacecanbeheated
usingtheTIH030m.Inaddition,smallerbearingscanbeplacedoveranyofthethree
standardyokes.Seetheillustrationsatthebeginningofthismanualforexamples.
1.2 Principle of operation
TheTIH030mgeneratesheatbymeansofalarge
electricalcurrentthatismagneticallyinducedinthe
workpiecebyacoilwithintheheater.
Thehighvoltage,lowcurrentelectricityowing
throughthelargenumberofwindingsinthe
inductivecoilinduceslowvoltage,highcurrent
electricityintheworkpiece.Becausetheworkpiece
hastheelectricalcharacteristicsofacoilwitha
single,short-circuitedwinding,thehighcurrent
generatesheatwithintheworkpiece.
Becausetheheatisgeneratedwithintheworkpiece,
alloftheheatercomponentsremaincool.
