If the DESS didn't read the tether cord cap code, or it read a different code than the one programmed, properly install the correct tether cord cap. For drive belt issues, check item 6 of ENGINE LACKS ACCELERATION OR POWER. For incorrect track adjustment, see MAINTENANCE and/or an authorized SKI-DOO dealer for proper alignment and tension adjustments. For engine problems, see items 1, 2, 6 and 7 of ENGINE LACKS ACCELERATION OR POWER. If the pulleys are misaligned, contact an authorized SKI-DOO dealer.

If the DESS (Digitally Encoded Security System) didn't read the tether cord cap code, or it read a different code than the one programmed, properly install the correct tether cord cap. If the drive belt has lost more than 3 mm of its original width, replace it. For liquid cooled engines, check the coolant level, pressure cap, thermostat, and for air locks. For fan cooled engines, inspect the fan belt and its tension, and clean the engine's cooling fins. If these steps don't resolve the issue, it may be necessary to contact an authorized SKI-DOO dealer.

What to do if my Ski-Doo SKANDIC engine cranks but fails to start?
    • P
      Paul FergusonAug 4, 2025
First, ensure the ignition switch and engine cut-out switch are in the ON position, and the tether cord cap is correctly installed. Check the fuel tank level and starting procedure, paying attention to choke usage. If the engine is flooded, remove the wet spark plug, turn the ignition switch to OFF, and crank the engine several times before installing a clean, dry spark plug. If there's no fuel reaching the engine, check the fuel tank level, ensure the fuel valve is open, inspect the fuel filter, and examine the fuel and impulse lines. If issues persist or you suspect a fuel pump or carburetor problem, or if you feel no pulsating resistance when pulling the rewind starter, contact an authorized SKI-DOO dealer.

If the DESS didn't read the tether cord cap code, or it read a different code than the one programmed, properly install the correct tether cord cap. Inspect, clean, and verify the spark plug gap and identification number, replacing if necessary. If there's too much oil being supplied to the engine, consult an authorized SKI-DOO dealer for oil pump adjustment. If there's water in the fuel, drain the fuel system and refill with fresh fuel.
