What to do if Ski-Doo Offroad Vehicle engine cranks but fails to start?
    • W
      wlloydAug 1, 2025
If your Ski-Doo offroad vehicle's engine cranks but doesn't start, first ensure the ignition switch and engine cut-out switch are in the ON position, and the tether cord cap is properly installed. Check the fuel tank level and starting procedure, paying attention to the choke. If the engine is flooded (spark plug wet), remove the wet spark plug, turn the ignition switch to OFF, crank the engine several times, and then install a clean, dry spark plug, and restart the engine normally. If the spark plug is dry, check the fuel tank level, ensure the fuel valve is on, inspect the fuel filter (replace if clogged), and examine the fuel and impulse lines and their connections.

Why does my Ski-Doo Skandic Offroad Vehicle engine misfire?
    • T
      Taylor RichmondAug 7, 2025
Engine misfires in your Ski-Doo offroad vehicle can stem from several reasons. If the DESS didn't read the tether cord cap code (DESS/RER pilot lamp blinks once every 1.5 seconds, engine cannot exceed 3000 RPM), properly install it. If the DESS read a different code (pilot lamp blinks rapidly), install the correct tether cord cap. Other causes include fouled, defective, or worn spark plugs, which should be cleaned, have their gap verified, and be replaced if needed. Too much oil being supplied to the engine can also cause misfires. Another potential issue is water in the fuel, which requires draining the fuel system and refilling with fresh fuel.

Why does my Ski-Doo Offroad Vehicle engine lack acceleration or power?
    • M
      Mary MillerOct 26, 2025
Several factors can cause a lack of acceleration or power in your Ski-Doo offroad vehicle's engine. It could be due to the DESS not reading the tether cord cap code (pilot lamp blinks once every 1.5 seconds, engine cannot exceed 3000 RPM), in which case you should properly install it. Alternatively, the DESS might have read a different code than the one programmed (pilot lamp blinks rapidly), requiring you to install the correct tether cord cap. Other potential causes include a fouled or defective spark plug, lack of fuel to the engine, worn drive belt (if it has lost more than 3 mm of its original width, replace it), engine overheating (check coolant level, pressure cap, thermostat and for air locks in cooling system on liquid cooled engines; check fan belt and its tension and clean cooli...
