Overview

The SkyRC IMAX B6 Evo is a professional balance charger and discharger designed for various battery chemistries, including LiPo, LiFe, LiHV, Lilon, NiMH, NiCd, and Pb (Lead Acid), including Pb AGM batteries. It serves as a versatile tool for RC enthusiasts, offering a range of charging and discharging programs to optimize battery performance and ensure safety.

Function Description:

The primary function of the IMAX B6 Evo is to charge and discharge multi-chemistry batteries. It features a sophisticated intelligent firmware housed within a classic design, aiming to provide reliable and efficient battery management. The charger can perform several operations, including:

  • Balance Charge: This mode charges the battery while simultaneously balancing the voltage of individual cells, which is crucial for Lithium batteries to maintain their health and performance.
  • Fast Charge: A quicker charging option that still incorporates balancing, suitable when time is a constraint.
  • Charge Non Bal: Charges Lithium batteries without connecting the balance lead, though balance charging is highly recommended for safety and performance.
  • Discharge: Discharges the battery to a specified voltage level.
  • Storage: Charges or discharges the battery to a specific voltage level ideal for long-term storage, preserving battery life.
  • Charge (General): Charges the battery to the expected voltage for NiMH/NiCd and Pb batteries.
  • Discharge (General): Discharges the battery to a specified voltage level for NiMH/NiCd and Pb batteries.
  • D&C Cycle: Performs discharge-charge cycles for NiMH/NiCd batteries.
  • Re-Peak (NiMH only): Automatically performs peak charging for NiMH batteries once, twice, or three times in a cycle.
  • DC/DC Converter: The B6 Evo can also function as a power supply for other DC equipment, offering an adjustable output voltage range from 5.0V to 20.0V. This feature is particularly useful for powering various DC tools.

Usage Features:

The charger's interface is designed for simplicity, with only ten program and system settings, allowing users to navigate the menu quickly. Eight of these programs are pre-set for common applications, making it user-friendly for various RC activities.

  • Pre-set Programs: The charger comes with eight pre-set programs for specific battery configurations and uses, such as 2S LiPo for RC cars/boats, 3S LiPo for fixed-wing/multirotors, 4S LiPo for fixed-wing/multirotors, 6S LiPo for EDF/fixed wings, 4S LiHV for racing drones, 2S LiFe for radio and receivers, a common program for any NiMH battery, and a common program for Pb batteries. These pre-sets streamline the setup process for frequent users.
  • Intuitive Controls: The device features dedicated buttons for ESC/STOP, DEC, INC, and ENTER/START, facilitating easy navigation through menus, parameter adjustment, and process initiation/termination.
  • Battery Voltage Check: Users can quickly check the overall battery voltage and individual cell voltages by pressing the DEC+INC buttons simultaneously.
  • User Calibration: Advanced users can calibrate battery voltage according to their experience or a multimeter, maximizing battery performance. This feature is accessible via the ESC+DEC buttons.
  • App Control (Optional): With an optional Bluetooth dongle (SK-600135), the B6 Evo can be controlled and monitored comfortably through the SkyCharger app on smartphones (iOS and Android). This allows for remote management of charging processes, viewing real-time battery data, and adjusting settings.
  • AGM and Cold Modes: The charger includes tailored algorithms for AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries and a "Cold weather mode" for charging at low temperatures (below 0°C/32°F), which increases the charging voltage for optimal performance in such conditions.
  • Safety Features: The charger incorporates several safety mechanisms, including warnings and error messages for issues like connection breaks, reverse polarity, overcharge capacity limits, balance breaks, cell mismatches, over-time limits, incorrect input/battery voltage, wrong battery type, and internal/external temperature issues. These alerts help prevent damage to the battery and charger, ensuring safe operation.

Maintenance Features:

While the manual primarily focuses on operational aspects, several points contribute to the longevity and safe use of the device:

  • Firmware Optimization: The firmware is optimized to self-adapt for maximum safety, especially when charging NiMH batteries. It continuously detects voltage to determine battery cells, preventing overcharging in case of broken cells.
  • Regular Updates: The manual encourages users to download the latest version from www.skyrc.com, implying that firmware updates may be available to improve performance and address any issues.
  • Calibration Reset: Users have the option to reset to factory calibration settings if they prefer, ensuring the device operates with its original, verified parameters.
  • Warning and Error Messages: The comprehensive warning and error message system helps users identify and troubleshoot issues promptly, preventing potential damage to the charger or batteries.
  • Proper Storage and Handling: The manual emphasizes the importance of proper handling, such as not leaving the charger unattended, using original adapters, operating on a hard, non-flammable surface, and avoiding extreme temperatures or moisture. These guidelines are crucial for maintaining the device's integrity and preventing hazards.
  • Warranty and Service: SkyRC offers a one-year warranty against manufacturing and assembly defects, encouraging users to contact their dealer for warranty service overseas and providing an email for general inquiries. This support structure helps ensure the device can be maintained or repaired if issues arise within the warranty period.
