Overview

This document describes the Smeg FQ55UFX refrigerator, a household appliance designed for storing food. It emphasizes safety, proper usage, structure, functions, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The Smeg FQ55UFX is a refrigerator with separate refrigerating and freezing chambers. The refrigerating chamber is suitable for storing fruits, vegetables, beverages, and other short-term food items. It features adjustable glass shelves for flexible storage space. The freezing chamber is designed for long-term storage of frozen foods and ice making. It is equipped with an automatic defrosting function based on the air-cooling principle. The appliance includes an ice-making machine, which requires connection to a potable water supply.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Water Pressure: The minimum inlet water pressure for the ice maker is 147kPa, and the maximum is 834kPa.
  • Temperature Settings:
    • Refrigerator Chamber: Default set temperature is 41°F (5°C). The temperature can be adjusted in 1°F increments. When the set temperature reaches 34°F (1°C), pressing the button again will switch it to 44°F (7°C).
    • Freezer Chamber: Default set temperature is 0°F (-18°C). The temperature can be adjusted in 1°F increments. When the set temperature reaches -7°F (-22°C), pressing the button again will switch it to 7°F (-14°C).
  • Super Cool Function: Sets the refrigerator temperature to 34°F (1°C) automatically.
  • Super Freeze Function: Sets the freezer temperature to -7°F (-22°C) automatically.
  • Refrigerant and Foaming Material: Uses flammable refrigerant and cyclopentane foaming material. Proper disposal according to local regulations is crucial to prevent environmental damage or harm.

Usage Features:

  • Placement: The refrigerator should be placed in a well-ventilated indoor area on a flat, sturdy surface. It requires a minimum of 12 inches of top space and more than 4 inches of free distance from a wall for heat dissipation. It should be kept away from heat sources, direct sunlight, and moist or watery places.
  • Initial Start-up: Before initial use, the refrigerator should remain still for two hours after connecting to power. It should run for 2-3 hours (or over 4 hours in summer) before storing fresh or frozen foods.
  • Levelling: The appliance has adjustable levelling feet to ensure stability.
  • Door Levelling: If the doors are not level, fastener rings can be inserted into the gap between the hinge-grommet and the lower hinge using pliers to adjust the height.
  • Control Panel: Features buttons for ice-making, super cool, refrigerator temperature adjustment, super freeze, freezer temperature adjustment, and lock/unlock.
  • Display: Shows the set temperatures for both chambers. The display light goes out after 30 seconds in lock state or when the door is closed. It lights up when a fault code is visible.
  • Lock/Unlock Function: The control panel automatically locks after 30 seconds of inactivity. Pressing and holding the lock/unlock button for 3 seconds toggles between locked and unlocked states.
  • Energy Saving Tips:
    • Place the appliance in the coolest area of the room, away from heat sources and direct sunlight.
    • Allow hot foods to cool to room temperature before placing them inside.
    • Wrap food properly and wipe containers dry to reduce frost build-up.
    • Avoid lining storage bins with aluminum foil or wax paper, as this interferes with cold air circulation.
    • Organize and label food to minimize door openings and search times.
  • Error Codes: The display panel shows error codes (E1, E2, E5, E6, E7, EH, Eo) to indicate specific problems with sensors, communication, or the ice maker. Users are advised to contact service for these issues.

Maintenance Features:

  • Overall Cleaning:
    • Dust behind the refrigerator and on the ground should be cleaned regularly to improve cooling efficiency.
    • The interior should be cleaned with soft towels or sponges dipped in water and non-corrosive neutral detergents.
    • The freezer should be cleaned with clean water and a dry cloth.
    • Avoid using hard brushes, steel balls, wire brushes, abrasives, toothpastes, organic solvents (alcohol, acetone, banana oil), boiling water, acid, or alkaline items, as these can damage the fridge surface.
    • Do not rinse with water to avoid affecting electrical insulation.
    • Always unplug the refrigerator before thawing and cleaning.
  • Door Tray Cleaning: Door trays can be squeezed and pushed upward for removal, washed, and then reinstalled at the desired height.
  • Shelf Cleaning: Cantilever shelves can be dismantled by tilting them inwards, lifting them, and then pulling them out horizontally. Reinstallation involves placing the upper end of the fixed leg into an upper slot and the lower end into a lower slot.
  • Freezer Lower Drawer Cleaning: The lower freezer drawer can be pulled out to a specific position, then buttons on both sides are pressed simultaneously to fully remove it for cleaning. It locks automatically upon reinsertion.
  • Water Line Installation (for Ice Maker): Water line installation kits are available separately. The process involves shutting off the main water supply, locating a cold water supply valve, connecting the water supply to the water valve, flushing the line, and then connecting the water tubes to the refrigerator's water connector.
  • Defrosting: The refrigerator has an automatic defrosting function. Any frost formed can also be manually removed by disconnecting the appliance from power and wiping with a dry towel.
  • Out of Operation:
    • Power Failure: During a power failure, minimize door openings and avoid adding fresh food to preserve existing contents.
    • Long-term Non-use: Unplug and clean the appliance, then leave the doors open to prevent odors.
    • Moving: Remove all internal objects, secure glass partitions and drawers with tape, tighten levelling feet, and seal doors with tape. The appliance should not be laid upside down or horizontally, and inclination during movement should not exceed 45°.
  • Continuous Operation: The appliance is designed for continuous operation; interrupting its use may impair its service life.
