Overview

This document describes a cooking hob, providing comprehensive instructions for its installation, use, maintenance, and safety. The hob is designed for cooking food in a home environment and features induction cooking technology.

Function Description

The hob is equipped with induction generators for each cooking zone. These generators, located under the glass ceramic cooking surface, create an electromagnetic field that induces a thermal current in the base of the saucepan. This means heat is generated directly inside the pan by the inductive current, rather than being transmitted from the hob to the pan. This method offers several advantages, including energy saving due to direct energy transmission to the pan (requiring suitable magnetisable cookware), improved safety as energy is only transmitted to the pan placed on the hob, high energy transmission efficiency, rapid heating, and reduced danger of burns because the cooking surface is only heated under the base of the pan, preventing overflowing foods from sticking.

The hob features multiple cooking zones, each with an outer diameter and corresponding maximum power consumption, which can be further boosted for intense heating. Power levels are indicative and may vary based on the pan used or settings.

Usage Features

The hob's control and monitoring devices are located on the front panel, with each cooking zone indicated next to its respective knob. To operate, simply turn the knob clockwise to the desired power setting.

The hob includes an "OFF" setting, an "Increase/Decrease" setting for adjusting power by turning the knob clockwise or anti-clockwise, a "Booster" setting (P) for activating a high-power function for a limited time (e.g., to rapidly boil water or broil meat), and an "Accelerator" setting (A) for delivering maximum power for a period proportional to the selected power. The Booster function has priority over the heating accelerator.

For induction cooking, cookware must be made of metal with magnetic properties and a sufficiently large, perfectly flat bottom. Suitable materials include enamelled steel with thick bases, cast iron with an enamelled base, and multilayer stainless steel, ferritic stainless steel, or aluminium with a special base. Unsuitable cookware includes copper, stainless steel, aluminium, fireproof glass, wood, ceramic, and terracotta. A magnet can be used to test suitability; if it attracts, the pan is suitable. If the hob displays a specific symbol, the pan is not suitable. Using cookware with an irregular bottom can jeopardise heating efficiency.

The hob incorporates an automatic device that limits the duration of use. If cooking zone settings are not changed, the maximum operation duration depends on the selected power level. When this device activates, the cooking zone turns off, a short alert sounds, and if the zone is hot, a specific symbol appears.

To prevent overheating, if the hob is used on full power for an extended period and room temperature is high, the electronics will automatically reduce power to the cooking zone.

Energy-saving advice includes ensuring the pan's base diameter matches the cooking zone, checking pan base diameter when purchasing, using a pressure cooker for long cooking times to save energy and preserve vitamins, ensuring enough liquid in pressure cookers to prevent damage, covering saucepans with lids, and choosing appropriately sized saucepans to avoid energy waste.

The hob also features a "Control Lock" to prevent accidental or inappropriate use. This is activated by simultaneously turning two cooking zone control knobs anti-clockwise while all zones are off, and deactivated by repeating the same steps.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for preserving the hob's aesthetic and functional qualities. Surfaces should be cleaned regularly after use, once they have cooled down.

For ordinary weekly cleaning, an ordinary glass cleaning product should be used, following the manufacturer's instructions. The silicon in these products creates a protective, water-repellent membrane that resists dirt. Marks stay on this membrane and can be easily removed. After cleaning, the surface should be dried with a clean cloth, ensuring no detergent residue remains, as it could react aggressively when heated.

For food stains or residues, smudges from aluminium-based pans can be cleaned with a vinegar-dampened cloth. Burnt residues should be removed with the provided scraper after cooking, then rinsed with water and dried. Regular scraper use reduces the need for chemical detergents. Any dirt that falls on the hob during cleaning (e.g., from lettuce or potatoes) should be removed immediately to prevent scratching when moving pans.

Changes in colour on the hob do not affect its operation or stability; these are residues that have carbonised. Shiny surfaces can form due to pan bases (especially aluminium) rubbing on the surface or unsuitable detergents. These are difficult to remove with conventional cleaning products and may require repeated cleaning. Aggressive detergents or rubbing can wear away the hob's decoration and contribute to stain formation.

Troubleshooting guidance is provided for common issues:

  • Hob not working: Check connection, main switch, power supply, and fuse.
  • Unsatisfactory cooking results: Adjust cooking temperature.
  • Hob smokes: Let it cool, clean it, and ensure food hasn't overflowed (use a larger vessel if needed).
  • Fuses or magneto thermal switch repeatedly trigger: Contact Technical Support or an electrician.
  • Cracks or fissures in the hob: Immediately turn off, disconnect power, and contact Technical Support.

Safety Instructions

General safety instructions emphasize that the appliance and its accessible parts become very hot during use, so heating elements should never be touched. Children under eight should be kept at a safe distance and supervised. Children must never play with the appliance. Metallic objects like knives, forks, spoons, and lids should not be rested on the appliance during use. The appliance should be switched off immediately after use. Fires or flames should never be extinguished with water; instead, turn off the appliance and smother flames with a fire blanket or other cover. The appliance must not be cleaned by unsupervised children. Installation and assistance should be carried out by qualified personnel.

The appliance should not be modified, and pointed metal objects should not be inserted into slots. Repairs should only be done by qualified technicians. If the power supply cable is damaged, it must be replaced by technical support.

To prevent damage to the appliance, abrasive or corrosive detergents should not be used on glass parts. Wooden or plastic utensils are recommended. The appliance should not be sat on, and steam jets should not be used for cleaning. Ventilation openings and heat dispersal slots must not be obstructed. The appliance should never be left unattended during cooking with fats or oils, nor should objects be left on the cooking surface. The appliance is not to be used for heating rooms.

Specific safety instructions for use include wearing heat-proof gloves, not touching or cleaning the hob surface when residual heat indicators are on, not placing empty saucepans on switched-on zones, keeping children under 8 away, activating the key lock when children or pets are present, and being aware that cooking zones remain hot after use.

Risk of fire or explosion warnings include not using or leaving flammable materials near or under the hob, not cooking with closed tins/containers or plastic kitchenware, not leaving the appliance unattended during cooking with fats/oils, and disconnecting power and contacting assistance if cracks or fissures appear or the appliance cannot be turned off.

Improper use warnings include not using the hob if pyrolysis is occurring in an oven below, only using saucepans with perfectly flat and smooth bases, avoiding hard objects falling on the cooking surface, and not using the hob as a support surface.

Electrical connection must be performed by authorised technical personnel using personal protective equipment. The appliance must be earthed. The main power supply should be disconnected before work. Cables must withstand at least 90°C, and terminal screw tightening torque should be 1.5-2 Nm. The identification plate should not be removed.

For fixed connections, an omnipolar circuit breaker compliant with installation regulations should be fitted near and easily reachable from the appliance. For plug and socket connections, ensure they are of the same type and avoid adapters/shunts. The power cable should be run in the rear part of the unit, avoiding contact with the lower part of the hob or any built-in oven. Connection cables for additional appliances must not contact hot cooking zones.

Installation safety instructions emphasize checking that furniture material is heat-resistant and has required slots. Ventilation grilles must not be obstructed. Veneers, adhesives, or plastic coatings on adjacent furniture must be temperature-resistant (>90°C). Minimum distances between the ventilation hood and cooking surface, and for hob edges, must be respected. If installed above an oven, the oven must have a cooling fan.

If installed over an empty kitchen unit or drawers, a double-layer wooden base at least 30 mm from the hob's bottom must be installed to prevent accidental contact with sharp or hot parts.

A hob seal is provided to prevent liquid leakage between the hob frame and work surface; it should be placed along the entire outer edge before assembly. Silicone should not be used to secure the hob, as it would prevent removal without damage. Fixing brackets are screwed into holes on the bottom casing to fasten the hob to the structure; overtightening can strain and crack the glass.
