Usage Features:
Installation Process:
- Pre-Installation Requirements: Site survey (roof measurements, obstacles, access, setbacks, construction issues), design guidance (0.75-inch spacing between module rows/columns, engineering values, attachment points per module side, plan set integration, roof attachment locations, homerun/Junction Box locations, distance marking).
- Mount to Module Frame Installation:
- Assemble all TopSpeed™ Mounts by sliding the clamp tower assembly into the angle bracket riser and tightening the leveling bolt to 16 ft-lbs.
- Position the TopSpeed™ Mount clamp on the module frame within the module manufacturers required clamping zone.
- Tighten 1/2" clamping bolt to 16 ft-lb. (Only two Mounts are required per module side).
- Best Practice: Attach all TopSpeed™ Mounts to modules on the ground before MLPEs for simplified wire management.
- Install Note: For high load conditions, a third attachment in the middle of the module frame is required.
- Universal Skirt Layout:
- Verify module fit on the roof surface using a tape measure.
- Draw the skirt installation layout on the roof, including module gaps (0.75 inch recommended), bottom corners, and locations for the two TopSpeed™ attachments that clamp to the skirt. Three attachments per module are never required at the skirt.
- Install Note: If environmental load conditions require three TopSpeed™ attachments per module side, this is only required when modules share attachments.
- Mount Skirt Installation:
- Install TopSpeed™ Mounts at marked skirt layout locations, ensuring they are entirely on one course of composition.
- Fill both cavities of the SpeedSeal™ gasket on the bottom of the TopSpeed™ Mount with roof sealant for a watertight seal.
- Attach TopSpeed™ Mount to the roof using the (4) SnapNrack #14 Wood Screws with 1/2" hex head.
- Loosen the Course Adjustment bolt and adjust end Mounts to align with the bottom edge of the array, then tighten.
- Loosen the Leveling bolt, move the clamp up or down to level the TopSpeed™ Mount, then tighten to 16 ft-lb.
- Use a string line to align and level all TopSpeed™ Mounts between the end mounts.
- Add Universal Spacers to Mounts and Clamps where the Skirt will be installed.
- Install Universal Skirt by holding it in the Mount, sliding it to align with array layout marks, and clamping it into the mount.
- Use TopSpeed™ Clamps (or optionally Universal Links) to connect multiple lengths of Array Skirt.
- Wire Management:
- Ground Lug Installation:
- Attach Ground Lug (242-92202) anywhere along the module frame or any TopSpeed™ Mount near the Junction Box. Torque module clamping bolt to 8 ft-lb.
- Run 10 - 6 AWG, solid, bare copper GEC into the Ground Lug channel, torque wire clamping bolt to 8 ft-lb.
- Run bare, solid EGC from Ground Lug R to Junction Box, bond bare EGC to stranded EGC in Junction Box.
- Optionally, install Ground Lug on the Mount Landing Pad at the top of the array.
- Smart Clip Installation:
- Use SnapNrack Smart Clip II for up to two PV wires inside the module frame.
- Use SnapNrack Smart Clip XL for larger bundles (up to 6 PV wires).
- Route conductors away from non-bonded components to prevent damage.
- MLPE & RSD Installation:
- SnapNrack MLPE Frame Attachment Kit:
- Slide the backplate channel of the MLPE device under the MLPE Frame Attachment Kit bolt.
- Position the MLPE Frame Attachment Kit on the module frame flange, ensuring it doesn't interfere with mounting system components and rests against the flange backstop.
- Tighten the mounting bolt to 12 lb-ft (144 lb-in).
- Connect module leads to input connectors and manage conductors with the integrated Smart Clip.
- Install Note: Avoid blocking module frame drainage holes. The kit bonds the module frame, MLPE backplate, and Smart Clip.
- SolarEdge Frame Mount:
- Locate the SolarEdge optimizer with Frame-Mounted Module Add-On on the module frame without interfering with TopSpeed™ Mounts.
- Install the optimizer mounting plate onto the module frame and tighten hardware to 11 ft-lbs.
- Connect module leads to input connectors and manage conductors with SnapNrack Smart Clips.
- Install Note: For portrait modules, install MLPE on the long side; for landscape, on the short side.
- Enphase Frame Mount:
- Locate the Enphase Frame Mount bracket clamp on the module frame without interfering with TopSpeed™ Mounts.
- Slide the microinverter unit onto the bracket clamp and move it slightly left.
- Tighten hardware to 13 ft-lbs.
- Connect module leads to microinverter DC connectors.
- Install Note: The microinverter mounting flange should be on the outside of the module frame. Refer to the Enphase Frame Mount installation guide for additional instructions.
- Module Installation (Bottom Row):
- Recommended Best Practice: Attach all TopSpeed™ mounts to modules on the ground with MLPEs for simplified wire management.
- Install Note: Prepare module leads and connectors with SnapNrack Smart Clips before bringing to the rooftop. Secure leads to the module frame if no MLPE, or to the MLPE device with the SnapNrack MLPE Frame Attachment Kit.
- Rest the downslope edge of the module on the Mounts and/or Clamps, aligning the side edge with the array layout or Skirt.
- Lower the upslope edge of the module, applying slight pressure to seat it into Mounts and/or Clamps.
- Verify the SpeedSeal™ portion of the TopSpeed™ Mounts is entirely on one course of composition. Adjust the base if needed and tighten the bolt.
- Lift the upslope edge of the module and fill the SpeedSeal™ reservoir with roofing sealant.
- Lower the module to the roof and drive the (4) pre-installed SnapNrack #14 Wood Screws into the roof sheathing.
- Repeat for additional modules.
- For staggered arrays or mixed orientation, use the TopSpeed™ Clamp as needed to support modules.
- When installing a TopSpeed™ Clamp for an over-cantilevered module, install it 2-6" from the edge of the upslope (cantilevered) module.
Maintenance Features:
Inspection Practices:
- SnapNrack recommends periodic re-inspection of the completed installation for loose components, loose fasteners, and any corrosion. Affected components should be immediately replaced.
Maintaining Grounding Bonding When Removing a Module:
- CAUTION: Module removal may disrupt the bonding path and introduce electric shock risk. Only qualified persons should remove modules.
- If module removal will break grounding continuity, a jumper assembly must be installed:
- Identify the existing ground path and choose an appropriate length of #10 bare copper wire to bridge the broken path.
- Attach one ground lug (e.g., SnapNrack 242-92202, Ilsco SGB-4, or DroRaxx DynoBond™) to each end of the #10 bare copper wire.
- Before removing the module, attach the assembled bonding jumper.
- Service the array. It is safe to remove the module with the bonding jumper installed.
- After servicing, reinstall the module and original ground path. Only then remove the bonding jumper.
- Caution: Do not remove the bonding jumper until the original ground path is established.
