SonicWall NSsp/High-End NSa Series Fan
Module Replacement and Installation
This document provides instructions for removing a system fan module
and installing a replacement in your SonicWall network security
appliance. The SonicWall NSsp and high-end NSa appliances contain
two or three cooling fans accessible from the back of the appliance.
The multiple fan modules ensure system temperature control.
Removing the System Fan from the Appliance
To remove a fan module from the SonicWall appliance:
1 Loosen the retaining thumbscrew with your fingers or a Phillips
(cross) screwdriver, if necessary.
2 Noting the fan’s orientation in the appliance, pull the handle all the
way open until pointing straight back. This disengages the fan’s
contacts.
3 Wait several seconds for the fan to stop spinning.
4 Pull the fan module outwards to completely remove it from the
appliance, then set it aside.
Inserting a System Fan into the Appliance
To install a new fan module into the SonicWall appliance:
1 With the appliance turned off, insert the fan module into the
empty slot using the same orientation you noted when you
removed the defective module.
2 Push the fan module firmly into place until it is completely seated
and snaps into place.
3 Return the retaining bracket across the fan module and tighten the
retaining screw with a screwdriver to securely fasten the bracket.
4 Confirm that the new fan is operating correctly.

Pour retirer le ventilateur de l'appareil SonicWall :
1 Desserrez la vis de fixation moletée avec vos doigts ou à l'aide d'un
tournevis cruciforme.
2 Prenez note de l'orientation (sens) du ventilateur à l'intérieur de
l'appareil, tirez sur la poignée pour l'ouvrir complètement, jusqu'à
ce qu'elle soit bien droite vers l'extérieur. Cela dégage les contacts
du ventilateur.
3 Patientez pour que le ventilateur arrête de tourner.
4 Tirez le module de ventilation vers l'extérieur pour le retirer
complètement de l'appareil et mettez-le de côté.
Installation du système de ventilation de l'appareil
Pour installer un nouveau ventilateur dans un appareil SonicWall :
1 Assurez-vous que l'appareil est éteint puis insérez le ventilateur en
conservant la même orientation (sens) noté lors du retrait du
module défectueux.
2 Poussez le module de ventilation fermement jusqu'à ce qu'il soit
complètement inséré et placé correctement a l'intérieur de
l'appareil.
3 Replacez le support de fixation contre le module de ventilation et
serrez convenablement la vis de fixation à l'aide d'un tournevis.
4 Vérifiez que le nouveau ventilateur fonctionne correctement.
Entfernen und Installation des Lüftermoduls
Entfernen Sie den Systemlüfter aus dem Gerät
Führen Sie zum Entfernen eines Lüftermoduls aus der SonicWall-
Appliance die folgenden Schritte durch aus:
1 Lösen Sie mit dem Daumen und Zeigefinger oder mit einem
Kreuzschlitzschraubendreher die Schraube, die das zu entfernende
Lüftermodul hält.
2 Merken Sie sich die Ausrichtung des Lüfters. Ziehen Sie den Griff so
weit, bis er gerade nach hinten zeigt. Dadurch lösen sich die
Kontakte.
3 Warten Sie einige Sekunden, bis der Lüfter angehalten hat.
4 Ziehen Sie das Lüftermodul heraus, um es vollständig aus der
Appliance zu entfernen und legen Sie es zur Seite.
Einsetzen des Lüftermoduls in die SonicWall‐Appliance
NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect the power before
replacing a fan.
