MAINTENANCE
This
section contains
preventive maintenance
procedures.
4-1.
Inspection
and
Cleaning
a.
Inspection
Inspect
the
centrifuge each
week
for
signs
of
wear,
encrusted biological
deposits,
and
general
cleanliness.
Follow the
cleaning
procedures
described below
when
necessary.
b.
Cleaning
Rotor
Chamber
The
rotor
chamber In the
refrigerated centrifuges should
be defrosted and cleaned
periodically
to
maintain
efficient
cooling.
To defrost the
chamber,
either
leave
the
door
open
with the
power
off
until the
frost
melts,
or run a
rotor
for
approximately
five
minutes at
40°C.
When
defrosting
is
complete,
wipe
the
chamber
with
a
damp
sponge
or cloth,
then
rinse
the
chamber
with
water and
dry
thoroughly.
Periodically
wipe
the
Inside
of the
rotor chamber in
the
nonrefrlgerated
centrifuges
using a damp
sponge
or
cloth
and rinse
with
water. Dry
thoroughly.
Spindle
Wipe
off the
spindle
with
a
soft cloth each time
a
rotor is installed to
reduce
the
chance
of the
rotor sticking. To
keep
the
surface
of the
spindle smooth,
polish
occasionally
with
a
Scotchbrite®
pad
(or equivalent). Always
wipe
the
spindle
clean after
polishing
and
apply
a
thin film
ofLubriplate*
grease (or
equivalent).
When
defrosting
the
rotor
chamber in
the
refrigerated
centrifuges,
wash
the
spindle
with
warm
water.
NOTE
If
the
rotor
is stuck
to
the
drive
spindle, use rotor extractor
tool
PN 68078
to
remove it.
