1. SAFETY OF USE - THREATS
ACCOMPANYING ARC WELDING AND PLASMA CUTTING
Arc welding and plasma cutting are
processes that can endanger the operator
and those around him. The operator and
his immediate surroundings are exposed,
among other things, to the risk of fire,
explosion, electric shock, burns, and the
risk of injury as a result of contact with
the moving parts of the device.
• Falling equipment may cause a threat to
health or life. Secure the device against
tipping over.
• The welding equipment may be heavy
(eg a wire feed unit equipped with a
wire spool and a hose package).
Adequate precautions should be taken
when handling by hand.
• To move heavy elements, use specially
constructed hoists / trolleys / transport
devices. Make sure that the weight of
the equipment to be transferred does
not exceed the permissible maximum
capacity of the lift / trolley / transport
device.
• When using the device, it is forbidden to
stay in the vicinity of unauthorized
persons, especially children.
• The device is not suitable for defrosting pipes.
• Improper use is forbidden.
With adequate protection measures,
electric welding and plasma cutting are
relatively safe processes. Due to this, it is
essential to strictly comply with the
prevailing health and safety rules when
carrying out welding work.
The information below does not release the operator
from the obligation to comply with the health and
safety rules in force in the plant.
1.1 GENERAL SAFETY RULES
Welding operators and people in the
vicinity of the welding process should be
informed of the hazards associated with
the arc welding / plasma cutting process.
They should have information on the
necessary protective measures as defined
in the relevant national and international
standards and regulations.
1.1.3 Adequate training
• Only professionally trained and qualified
personnel may install, operate,
maintain and repair the device.
• For operators (users) and their superiors
it is necessary to have appropriate
training and qualifications: in the field
of safe use of the equipment; on the
processes carried out; on emergency
procedures.
1.1.1 Condition and maintenance of equipment
• Check the technical condition of the device
and the accessories before starting welding.
It is forbidden to work with technically
inefficient equipment.
• Damaged or defective equipment must
be repaired or decommissioned
immediately.
1.2 ELECTRIC SHOCK CAN KILL
1.1.2 Body protection
• Secure the area around the area where the
welding process will be carried out.
• All devices should be located in such a
way that they do not constitute a
hazard in communication routes, on
ladders, stairs, etc.
