  If your STA-RITE Water Pump loses prime, it could be due to suction leaks. First, ensure the pump volute and trap are full. Check for any leaks in the suction piping. Make sure the suction pipe inlet is well below the water level to prevent the pump from sucking in air. If the suction trap gasket is defective, replace it. If the suction lift is too high (15 to 25 feet can reduce performance, and over 25 feet can prevent pumping), move the pump closer to the water source and ensure the suction pipe is large enough.
