Overview

This document is an operation and maintenance manual for STANLEY Dura-Glide™, Dura-Storm™, Dura-Guard™, DuraFit™, and IS10000 Automatic Sliding Door Systems. It provides essential information for owners and caretakers to ensure the safe and proper functioning of their automatic door systems, emphasizing compliance with industry standards and daily safety checks.

The manual begins by welcoming customers and stressing the importance of understanding the door system's operation and maintenance for safety compliance. It highlights the owner's responsibility to inspect the door system daily and after any power outages. Regular observation of the doors in use is also recommended.

General Information

The manual outlines STANLEY Access Technologies LLC's service availability, noting a nationwide network of owned branches and authorized distributors specializing in sales, installation, and service. Service programs include regularly scheduled preventive maintenance and 24/7 emergency service. The customer support hotline (888-DOOR-444) is available around the clock for service needs.

A limited warranty is provided, covering the installed door system against failures due to substandard material or workmanship for one year from the installation date. Customers are advised to review their Certificate of Warranty Agreement for full details.

Compliance with industry standards is a key focus. The door systems are designed to meet the latest revisions of ANSI/BHMA A156.10 and UL325 requirements. It is crucial that the door system is maintained according to these standards, proper decals and labels are applied and legible, and safety devices are checked annually and after each service by a trained technician.

Caution

A dedicated section warns that an improperly adjusted door can cause injury and equipment damage. It instructs users to:

  • Inspect door operation daily using the provided safety checklist.
  • Ensure safety devices are in place and operational.
  • Have the door adjusted as recommended in the Owner's Manual.
  • Have the door inspected at least annually by a STANLEY AAADM certified technician.

Users are explicitly advised not to attempt to repair or adjust the door if it fails the "Daily Safety Check" or for any other reason. Instead, they should discontinue operation and call a STANLEY certified service technician. The manual clarifies that "Caution" indicates potential injury or property damage from non-compliance, while "note" signifies important steps or equipment differences.

Operation

The operation section details the function switches, which are located on the underside of the door header or on the jamb of the stationary panel. These switches include:

  • Power Switch: Illuminated red when on, should only be turned off for servicing.
  • Auto/Close/Open Switch: A 3-position switch for automatic function (auto), secure closure (close), or indefinite open (open).
  • Enter Switch: If the "one-way" feature is installed, this switch prevents the door from opening from the outside when fully closed.
  • Reduced Opening Switch: If installed, this feature causes the door to open partially when activated.

Emergency Breakout

The manual explains that in case of power failure or other emergencies, the sliding doors "breakout" to provide a wide exit opening. The number of panels that breakout varies by model. Breakout involves pushing the leading edge of a sliding panel outward, causing it to unlatch and pivot. This action disables automatic operation until the panels are returned to their normal, operating position. IS10000 doors do not have this emergency breakout feature.

Reset

Instructions for resetting the door system after a power loss are provided. The controller automatically reinitializes during the first cycle of operation once power is restored and the door is not physically locked. Manual reset steps are:

  1. Turn the "POWER" switch to "OFF."
  2. Verify no panels are "broken out."
  3. Turn the "AUTO/CLOSE/OPEN" switch to "AUTO."
  4. Turn the "POWER" switch to "ON."
  5. Step back and allow the doors to re-tune.

Daily Maintenance

This section covers housekeeping and cleaning. Housekeeping: The owner or responsible person should ensure the door area is free of tripping/slipping hazards, bulletin boards, literature racks, merchandise displays, or other attractions that could impede door operation or pose a risk to users. The track assembly must be kept free of debris, with vacuuming recommended for door tracks.

Daily Maintenance (Inspection): Stanley Access Technologies recommends daily inspection for performance and safety. Before each day, users should:

  1. Perform a full Daily Safety Check.
  2. Check for slipping or tripping hazards.
  3. If a threshold is present, sweep the floor track.
  4. Check all door panels for broken or cracked glass; contact service immediately if detected.
  5. Ensure no obstructions impede door panel operation.

Cleaning: The recommended cleaning procedure for the automatic door system is:

  1. Glass: Clean with water and a cotton cloth, or use Windex™ or similar detergent and alcohol-based cleaner.
  2. Aluminum: Clean with a mixture of equal parts Windex or similar product and Simple Green™ All Purpose Cleaner with a cotton cloth.
  3. Caution: DO NOT USE any product with Alkalide or other sodium-based products, as it could deteriorate the aluminum finish.

Stanley also recommends a semi-annual inspection and adjustment by a technician to optimize performance and extend the equipment's lifespan.

Automatic Sliding Door Decals

The manual specifies decal requirements:

  • Sliding doors for ingress/egress must have directional arrow signs visible from the approach side and international "DO NOT ENTER" signs visible from the other side. These decals should be affixed 50" +/- 12" from the finished floor.
  • "KNOWING ACT DOORS" require "AUTOMATIC DOOR – ACTIVATE SWITCH TO OPERATE" signage, along with other required signage, visible from each side.
  • A "Daily Safety Check" decal is provided as a reminder and should be affixed to the jamb tube.
  • Some jurisdictions require a "This Door Must Remain Unlocked When the Building is Occupied" decal on exit doors, which is not supplied in the standard kit.

Troubleshooting and Hints

A troubleshooting section addresses common issues, specifically when doors will not operate (open or close).

  • Action: First, check if the power switch is on. If not, turn it on.
  • If the power switch is on, a reset may be needed. This involves turning the power switch "OFF," waiting a few seconds, turning it "ON" again, and allowing the door to re-tune. The door will open and close slowly in a search mode; interruptions should be avoided if possible. If traffic must pass, the door will operate at regular speed, then resume slow search mode until closed.
  • The "AUT/CLS/OPN" switch should be set to "AUT." If set to "CLS," doors will close and remain closed (sensors off). If set to "OPN," doors will open and remain open.
  • Users should check all panels for breakout, ensuring all doors are securely in place. Up to 50 lbs of force may be needed to push them back in. They should manually slide open and closed with little effort; if not, the track should be checked for cleanliness.

Terminology Drawing and Index

A diagram and index define key components and terms:

  1. Activating Zone: The detection pattern (approx. five feet deep and as wide as the clear door opening) protected by the motion sensor. When someone enters, the control activates, and the sliding door panels open.
  2. Emergency Egress Position (Breakout): Sliding door panel(s) swing outward for emergency egress. The system is inoperative in this position.
  3. Header: The top horizontal aluminum tube containing the operating mechanism.
  4. IN Door(s): Designed for traffic entering the building.
  5. Motion & Presence Sensor: Self-contained unit on the header that activates controls and opens panels when someone enters the zone, and detects presence in the door's pathway.
  6. OUT Doors: Designed for traffic exiting the building.
  7. Recycle: When a closing door is activated, it immediately reverses to the "open" position.
  8. Breakout: The ability to allow emergency egress by swinging out sliding panels, different from normal operation.
  9. Reset Door Panels from Breakout Position: Pushing swing-out panels back to their normal position.
  10. Safety Zone: The area covered by motion and presence sensors.
  11. Sliding Door: A door sliding parallel with the wall or building face for access.
  12. Threshold: The floor area containing the door track where panels move.
  13. Holding Beam: A device using an invisible light beam across an opening. When interrupted, it signals to open or keep doors open.

Daily Safety Check

This section provides a detailed checklist for daily safety checks, emphasizing customer safety and protection. It should be performed daily and after any power outage or generator test.

Slide Door Systems with Electronic Controls:

  1. Check electronic sensor: Walk towards the door opening from several angles. The door should open smoothly when about five feet away and stop without impact. Repeat on the other side.
  2. Step out of sensor zone: After a brief delay, the door should slide closed smoothly and fully without impact.
  3. Remain motionless at the side of the closed door: Cover the doorway holding beam with your hand. The door should open fully or remain open.

Slide Door Systems with Overhead Threshold Safety System:

If equipped, check the following daily:

  • Inside and Outside Approach Activation Sensors: Both sensors should operate as described for electronic controls. For one-way traffic, one sensor shuts off when the door is closed and turns on when the opposite side sensor activates.
  • Overhead Threshold Safety Sensor: Mounted above the door opening, it senses presence in the threshold zone (full width of the opening, extending approx. 10" on either side).
  • To test the system:
    1. Walk towards the door opening from several angles. The door should open smoothly when about five feet away and stop without impact.
    2. When the door starts to open, walk into the threshold area and stop. Stand in the zone for several seconds; the door should remain open. Continue through the opening and walk at least five feet away. After a brief delay, the door should close.
    3. Turn and repeat the above zone tests from the opposite direction.

If problems cannot be corrected, turn off the door operating equipment and call service.

Doors and Frames:

  1. Check the door area for tripping and slipping hazards.
  2. Check all door panels for broken or cracked glass. Ensure no obstructions (bulletin boards, displays) are in the door area.
  3. Safety decals should be properly displayed.
