Overview

This document describes the Portable Lawn Sprinkler and Utility Pump, Model HSPJ100, designed for various water transfer applications.

Function Description

The pump is designed to sprinkle lawns and small gardens from lakes, ponds, or rivers. It can also be used to empty or fill stock tanks, remove standing water from flooded areas, transfer water, or boost water pressure. It is a non-submersible pump.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Power Supply: 115 volts, 60 Hz
  • Individual Branch Circuit Required: 15 Amp minimum
  • Maximum Water Temperature: 77°F (25°C)
  • Discharge Connection: 1 inch NPT thread
  • Suction Connection: 1 inch NPT thread
  • Water Depth Rating: Maximum of 25 feet
  • Discharge Pressure vs. Flow Rate:
    • 5 PSI: 800 Gallons per Hour
    • 10 PSI: 700 Gallons per Hour
    • 17 PSI: 600 Gallons per Hour
    • 25 PSI: 500 Gallons per Hour
    • 30 PSI: 400 Gallons per Hour
    • 40 PSI: 200 Gallons per Hour
    • 50 ft.: 100 Gallons per Hour

Usage Features

  • Water Compatibility: Designed to pump only clear water. It is explicitly stated not to pump flammable or explosive fluids (such as gasoline, fuel oil, kerosene), caustic chemicals, salt water, brine, laundry discharge, or any other application containing foreign materials. Using the pump with incompatible liquids will void the warranty and can cause personal injury or property damage.
  • Electrical Safety: The pump is supplied with a grounding conductor and a grounding-type attachment plug. It must be connected to a grounded circuit equipped with a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) device. All wiring must be performed by a qualified electrician in compliance with local and national codes. The round grounding prong on the power cord must never be cut off, as this makes the pump unsafe and voids the warranty.
  • Installation for Pumping from Lakes, Ponds, or Small Streams:
    • Locate the pump as close as possible to the water source, minimizing the vertical distance from the water to the pump.
    • Place the pump on a level support and protect it from flooding and excessive moisture.
    • Minimize pipe/hose length and the number of fittings to maximize pump flow.
    • The inlet hose must be a reinforced type; regular garden hose will collapse and lead to pump failure.
    • A foot valve with a strainer should be used to maintain prime.
    • All connections in the inlet hose must be sealed to prevent air leaks, which reduce pump performance.
    • An adapter for garden hose thread is included for both inlet and outlet connections.
  • Boosting Water Pressure:
    • Connect the inlet pipe or hose to the pump, and the other end to the water supply.
    • Connect the outlet pipe or hose to the pump.
    • Use only reinforced high-pressure hose or pipe for the outlet. Do not run the pump with the outlet pipe or nozzle closed, as this can cause the hose to burst.
  • Priming:
    • Before starting, remove the priming port on the pump and fill it with water. Reinstall the priming port.
    • For boosting water pressure, do not remove the priming port; turn on the water supply.
  • Operation:
    • Turn the pump switch to the "off" position before plugging it in.
    • Insert the power cord directly into a GFCI outlet.
    • Turn the pump switch to the "on" position.
    • If the pump does not pump water within 5 minutes, turn it off and refill with clean water. If repeated attempts fail, check that the vertical distance to the water level is not over 20 feet, the suction line is airtight, and all valves in the suction and discharge lines are open.
    • Never run the pump dry, as this will cause seal failure.

Maintenance Features

  • Ventilation: Maintain adequate ventilation for the pump motor.
  • Lubrication: The motor bearings are permanently lubricated at the factory and do not require additional lubrication.
  • Winter Draining: To protect against freezing temperatures, the system must be drained.
    • Disconnect suction and discharge lines from the pump.
    • Remove the plug from the lower front face of the pump.
    • Drain all piping below the frost line or store piping indoors.
    • Store the pump indoors.
  • Troubleshooting: A detailed troubleshooting chart is provided to address common issues such as the motor not running, motor running hot, pump running but not delivering water, and pump not delivering full capacity. This chart includes possible causes and corrective actions.
    • Capacitor Safety: A warning is given regarding hazardous capacitor voltage. To discharge the capacitor, short its terminals with an insulated screwdriver, ensuring to hold the handle of the screwdriver while making contact.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a one-year limited warranty from the date of purchase or two years from the date of manufacture, whichever occurs first. The warranty covers defects due to materials or workmanship. It does not cover failures due to improper installation, operation, maintenance, abuse, accident, negligence, use of inappropriate chemicals, normal maintenance services, or use for purposes other than its design. The manufacturer retains the sole right to repair or replace defective equipment. The warranty is valid in Canada and Mexico.

Replacement Parts

The only replacement part listed for Model HSPJ100 is the "Impeller, Diffuser, Nozzle Kit" with P/N 024609.
