Ease the cap out of the starter
grip.
•
Remove remaining rope from the
rotor and grip.
•
Tie a simple overhand knot in the
end of the new starter rope -
0000 195 8200 - and then thread
the rope through the top of the grip
and the rope bush .
•
Refit the cap in the grip.
•
Pull the rope through the rotor and
secure it with a simple overhand
knot.
•
Coat rope rotor bearing bore with
non-resinous oil.
•
Slide rotor onto starter post -
turn it back and forth until the
loop of rewind spring engages.
•
Fit the pawl and washer
and press the spring clip into
position.
The spring clip must point counter-
clockwise and engage the peg on
the pawl.

Remove the rope rotor -
see "Replacing the starter rope".

Broken parts of spring may still be under
tension and could be thrown in your
direction when you remove the rope
rotor.
To reduce the risk of injury, wear eye
and face protection and work gloves for
the following operation.
•
Take out the screw .
•
Remove parts of old spring.
•
Lubricate replacement spring with a
few drops of resin-free oil.
•
Place spring and frame in position -
check that outer spring loop is
correctly seated.
