Overview

The STIHL FSA 80.0 is a battery-powered brushcutter designed for trimming grass and light brush. It is part of STIHL's AK battery system, offering cordless operation for enhanced mobility and ease of use.

Function Description:

The FSA 80.0 is a versatile tool for garden and landscape maintenance. It operates by rotating a cutting attachment, which can be either a mowing head with nylon lines or a metal grass cutting blade, to cut vegetation. The brushcutter is powered by a STIHL AK battery, providing a balance of power and runtime for various tasks. It features an ergonomic bike handle for comfortable operation and a carrying system (shoulder strap or full harness) to distribute weight and reduce user fatigue. The device includes a deflector to protect the user from flying debris and a line limiting blade to trim nylon lines to the correct length. The brushcutter offers different power levels, including an ECO power level for extended battery life during lighter tasks, and automatically adjusts its maximum speed based on the attached cutting tool.

The carrying system helps balance the brushcutter, reducing strain on the user. The battery is easily inserted and removed, and its state of charge can be checked via LEDs. The brushcutter features an unlock button and an ergo lever that must be pressed before the trigger can activate the cutting attachment, preventing unintentional starting. The speed of the cutting attachment is controlled by the trigger, allowing for precise power delivery. An ECO power level can be selected for less demanding tasks, extending battery runtime. For mowing heads with nylon lines, the AutoCut feature allows for automatic line feed by briefly tapping the head on the ground.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the FSA 80.0's longevity and safe operation.

  • Cleaning: The brushcutter, deflector, cutting attachment, battery, and charger should be cleaned regularly. The brushcutter and battery can be cleaned with a damp cloth, while vents and electrical contacts should be cleaned with a paintbrush or soft brush. The area underneath the fanwheel should also be cleaned.
  • Battery Care: The battery should be stored in a clean, dry, enclosed space, separate from the brushcutter, and at a state of charge between 40% and 60% (indicated by 2 green LEDs). It should not be stored outside specified temperature limits. If wet, the battery should be allowed to dry for at least 48 hours in a controlled environment.
  • Charger Care: The charger should be stored in a clean, dry, enclosed space, out of reach of children, and not suspended by its connecting cable. The connecting cable should be wound up and attached to the charger for storage.
  • Metal Cutting Attachment: Metal cutting attachments require correct sharpening and balancing. STIHL recommends having these tasks performed by an authorized servicing dealer.
  • General Checks: Before each use, the user should check the brushcutter, deflector, cutting attachment, and battery for damage or malfunctions. The controls (unlock button, ergo lever, trigger) should also be checked for proper function.
  • Servicing: STIHL recommends having the trimmer checked by a STIHL servicing dealer every 12 months. Any damaged components, including the trimmer, cutting attachment, battery, or charger, should be serviced or replaced by a STIHL authorized dealer. Users should not attempt to repair these components themselves.
