Your Stihl Trimmer might not start for several reasons: the battery's charge may be too low (charge the battery); the battery could be too warm or cold (remove the battery and allow it to cool down or warm up); the brushcutter might be too hot (remove the battery and allow the brushcutter to cool down); there may be a fault in the battery (remove and reinsert the battery); there could be no electrical contact between the brushcutter and battery (remove the battery and clean electrical contacts); the brushcutter or battery could be damp (allow the brushcutter or battery to dry); or the brushcutter may have a malfunction (remove the battery, clean electrical contacts, and reinsert the battery. If 3 LEDs flash red, contact a STIHL authorized dealer).

If the mowing head on your Stihl Trimmer cannot be removed by hand because it is overtightened, block the fanwheel with the stop pin, unscrew the mowing head by hand, and then remove the stop pin.

What to do if my Stihl FSA 80.0 R battery is not being charged?
A
Amanda CareyAug 20, 2025
If your Stihl Trimmer battery is not being charged, it may be due to no electrical contact between the charger and battery. To solve this, remove the battery, clean the contacts on the charger, and reinsert the battery. If the issue persists, there may be a malfunction in the charger, in which case you should not use the charger and contact your STIHL dealer for assistance.

Why can't I set the power levels on my Stihl FSA 80.0 R Trimmer?
P

If you cannot set the power levels on your Stihl Trimmer, it might be because the trigger is pressed while the brushcutter is switched on. To resolve this, select the power level as described in this User Manual.

If charging does not start when the battery is inserted into the charger of your Stihl Trimmer, the battery might be too warm or too cold. Leave the battery inserted in the charger; charging will start automatically once the permitted temperature range is reached.
