B. INSTALL BEARINGS IN INNER GIMBAL RING
1. Set the stainless steel workplate (shipped with the bench top carrier
fixture) on the bench top carrier fixture or use a solid workbench
surface.
2. Install four flange bearings in the four holes located in the edge of the
inner gimbal ring:
Outside Diameter Holes
Notes: Do not stand the ring on a solid surface to install the two
outside diameter bearings--to do so will bend the ring.
For all four flange bearings, take care to insert each bearing
straight in its hole.
a. Place a bearing on the short end of the 6DS-SP flange bearing tool
with the flange against the shoulder.
b. While holding the ring in a vertical position with one hand, palm
up, and supporting the ring from the inside top with your fingers
surrounding one of the two outside diameter bearing holes,
insert the flange bearing tool and bearing in the hole.
c. While continuing to support the ring with one hand, using a soft
hammer, firmly tap the tool until the bearing is seated in the hole.
Note: Your hand absorbs the shock.
d. Remove the flange bearing tool.
e. Locate the second outside diameter hole, located 180 _ opposite the
first, on the outside diameter of the ring.
f. Repeat Steps a., b., c., and d., immediately above, to install a flange
bearing in the second outside diameter hole.
Inside Diameter Holes
g. Stand the gimbal ring vertically on a solid surface, positioned such
that one of the inside diameter holes is located at the bottom of the
ring.
