Strasbaugh Mechanical Maintenance Procedures
Version 4.0 - February 1998 9 - 21
2. Place the outer gimbal ring over the inner gimbal ring, positioned with
the two 1/4-in. threaded holes of the outer gimbal ring up and at 3
o’clock and 9 o’clock.
Note: The outer ring should fit down smoothly around the inner
ring.
3. Assemble two assembly screw/outer gimbal pin units:
a. Insert a 10-32 x 2 3/4-in. assembly screw into the threaded hole of
an outer gimbal pin, manually rotating the assembly screw
clockwise approximately three revolutions.
b. Repeat Step a., immediately above, to assemble a second assembly
screw/gimbal pin unit.
4. Insert the two assembly screw/outer gimbal pin units into the two holes
located at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock in the outside (vertical) edge of the
outer gimbal ring:
a. While holding one assembly screw/gimbal pin unit in each hand,
positioned with the flat of the pin facing up,
simultaneously insert both assembly screw/outer gimbal pin units
into the holes at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock.
b. Push both pin units in until flush with the outside ring
and
rest the outer gimbal ring on and above the inner gimbal ring with
the outer ring being supported by the pins.
5. Install a tapered outer spacer on the exposed portion of each pin:
• Position each spacer with its small end nearest the inside surface of
the outer ring.
6. Carefully retract both pins until the upper (outer) ring drops onto the
lower (inner) ring with the pins clearing the outside diameter of the
inner ring, trapping the spacers between the inner and outer rings.
7. With both rings aligned and both gimbal pins positioned flat side up,
insert both gimbal pins until each is flush against the outside diameter of
the outer ring.
