Strasbaugh Mechanical Maintenance Procedures
Version 4.0 - February 1998 9 - 75
4. Install the dial indicator:
a. Clamp the dial indicator to a location on the end of the horizontal
surface of the slide plate nearest the connector box.
b. Extend the linkage such that the slide plate and indicator can rotate
freely around the base of the robot assembly (without colliding with
the robot assembly).
c. Adjust the linkage to permit the indicator stylus to touch the surface
plate.
5. Using a 7/16-in. open end wrench, loosen the four 1/4-20 hex jam nuts,
two located on each side of the bottommost plate of the robot, by
rotating them counterclockwise.
Notes: Refer to Figure 9-15 for the locations of the four jam
nut/set screw pairs labeled A, B, C, and D.
As Loctite was used at the factory to secure the jam nuts
and set screws, it may be necessary to use Loctite solvent to
loosen them for the adjustment.
6. Referring to the sketch shown in Figure 9-15, using a 1/8-in. hex key,
rotate the four 1/4-in. set screws labeled A, B, C, and D
counterclockwise until the robot base is flat to the table on all sides.
7. Using a 1/8-in. hex key, rotate each of the 1/4-in. set screws labeled A,
B, and C 1/2 revolution clockwise.
8. Visually inspect the robot position.
GOAL: The robot should be touching the table only at set
screws A, B, and C.
a. If the goal is met, continue to Step 9., immediately below.
b. If the goal is not met, repeat Steps 6. and 7., immediately above.
