is desired
to
gain
more
power
for
pass

cars

traffic
or
on
grades,
push
the
accele
rator
to
the
flo
or
board.
Thi
s
cuts
out
the overdrive
and
it
will
.
re
main inope
rative
until
th
e acce
lerator
is
again
re
leased.
At
tha
t time
the
ov
erdrive
again
engag
es
au
tom
ati
cally.
The overdrive handle c
an
be pulled
out
,
thereby
locking
the
transmis
sion in
the
conventional position.
Thi
s should
be done
for
descending steep, mountainous
grades,
or
wh
en
pushing or towing the car to start the engine.
The
circum
-
-stances under which
this
c
hange
can be
made
safely
are
as follow
s:
1. To cha
ng
e
the
transmission
from
overdrive
to
the
locked-
in
conventional position while
the
car
is
sta
nding
still, merely pull
out
the
OD
cont
ro
l handle.
2.
To change
th
e
tr
an
smission
from
overdrive
to
the
locked-
in
co
nv
entional position when
driving
below
the
ov
erdrive
cut-in speed of
approxim
a
tely
30-35
m.p.h. (50-55 km.) accelerate
the
engine
and
at
the
sa
me
time
pull out
the
OD
con
trol
handle.
3. To change
the
transmission
from
overdrive
to
the
locked-in conventional position when "driving in
overdrive, completely de
press
the
accelerator
pas
t
..
r.

e wide-open t
hrottl
e posi
tion
and
as
'!;loon
as
the
transmission is in
~onventional,
pull
obt
the
OD
control handle.
If
the
OD
contr
ol handle is
in
the
locked-in conven-
tiona
l position (pulled o
ut)
it
can be placed in
the
overdrive
position while
th
e
car
is
standing
still. To make
this
change
when
the
car is
m~ving
at
any
forward
speed, accelerate
slightly
and
push
the
control handle fully
forward.
Overdrive is availa
ble
at
extra
cost.
