T he crankcase is provided w it h a cross ven t ilation
sys t em to reduce h arm ful dilu ti on of the en gine oil by
wa
ter and fuel. C ra nk c ase dil ution is a ggravat ed by low
sp eed drivi ng with freq uent stops and sta rts b ecause the
en gine does not war m up to the norma l operatin g tempera-
t ur e. The driv er can mat e ri ally . as sist in prev e nting t his
condi ti on by obser v in g t he following sugges ti ons :
1.
After sta rti ng, give the eng i ne time to war m up
bef
ore dri ving.
2. Keep
the eng in e in good me chanical cond iti on . See
tha t the co mp re ss ion is good an d that the i gn i tion
and carbu re tion s ystems are k ept in peak condi ti on.
3 . . Cle
an the crankcase at least once a year, prefe rabl y
when win t er oil is chan ged f or summ er we ig ht oil.
4. Use t
he proper gra de of a rep utab le en gine oil.
5. Use a good gr ade of fre sh gasoline.
6. Check ther mostat op era tion.
