Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the Summit Professional Frost-Free Refrigerator, Model No. AL54. It provides comprehensive information on the appliance's safety, installation, operation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Summit Professional Frost-Free Refrigerator, Model AL54, is a single-zone, frost-free refrigerator designed for indoor use. It can be installed as a built-in, recessed, or free-standing unit. The appliance features a digital control panel for precise temperature management, an interior LED light, and adjustable shelves and door racks for flexible storage. Its frost-free design eliminates the need for manual defrosting under normal operating conditions. The unit is equipped with a security lock for added safety and a reversible door swing, allowing it to open from either the left or right side to suit various installation requirements. It also includes a Sabbath Mode, which disables displays, interior lights, and audible alarms for religious observances while maintaining normal cooling operations. The appliance incorporates a temperature memory function, which restores previous temperature settings after a power interruption.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model Number: AL54
  • Refrigerant: Isobutane (R600a), which is environmentally friendly, CFC- and HFC-free.
  • Electrical Supply: Standard 115/120 Volt AC ~ 60Hz, three-prong grounded electrical outlet.
  • Circuit Breaker/Fuse Size: 15 amperes.
  • Operating Temperature Range: The unit performs best when the ambient temperature is between 72°F and 78°F (23°C to 26°C). It should not be installed in locations where the temperature falls below 44°F (7°C) or rises above 90°F (32°C).
  • Internal Temperature Control Range: 36°F to 43°F.
  • Installation Clearances:
    • Free-standing: 5" (127mm) at the back and sides, 4" (102mm) at the top.
    • Built-in: ¼" (6.35mm) on each side and at the top, 2" (51mm) at the rear. The front air vent must remain unobstructed.
  • Adjustable Height: The unit's height can be increased by up to 3" using adjustable legs, with a hidden section of the kick-plate to cover the gap.

Usage Features

  • Digital Control Panel: Features intuitive buttons for ON/OFF power, light control, temperature adjustment (UP/DOWN), and Fahrenheit/Celsius selection.
  • Temperature Setting: Users can set the desired temperature between 36°F and 43°F using the UP and DOWN symbols. The display shows the set temperature for 5 seconds before reverting to the actual internal temperature.
  • Interior Light Control: The LIGHT symbol toggles between two modes:
    • Functional (Default) Mode: Lights turn on only when the door is open.
    • Showcase Mode: Lights remain on continuously.
  • Sabbath Mode: Activated by pressing POWER and LIGHT keys simultaneously for 5 seconds. An indicator light flashes four times to confirm activation. This mode turns off displays, interior lights, and audible alarms. It automatically deactivates after 96 hours or can be manually exited by repeating the activation process.
  • Temperature Memory Function: In case of a power interruption, the unit remembers and restores the previous temperature settings once power is recovered.
  • Temperature Alarm / Door Alarm: An audible alarm sounds and the temperature display flashes if the storage temperature is too high or if the door is left open for more than 60 seconds. Pressing the POWER key once can silence the audible alarm.
  • Security Lock: The unit comes with a lock and key to secure the door.
  • Adjustable Shelves and Door Racks: Shelves can be removed to accommodate larger items, and door racks provide additional storage.
  • Reversible Door Swing: The door can be configured to open from either the left or right side, offering flexibility for placement.

Maintenance Features

  • Frost-Free Operation: The unit automatically defrosts under normal operating conditions. Condensate is collected and evaporated by the compressor. Manual defrosting may be required if frost accumulates due to frequent door openings in high heat or humidity.
  • Cleaning:
    • Interior: Clean with a solution of warm water and baking soda (2 tablespoons per quart of water). Shelves should be washed with a mild detergent solution.
    • Exterior: Clean the cabinet with warm water and mild liquid detergent. The stainless steel door and handle should be cleaned with an approved stainless steel cleaner; avoid steel wool or steel brushes.
    • Condenser: The manual suggests cleaning the condenser when necessary if the appliance is not cooling sufficiently.
  • Power Failure Protection: Most power failures are short and do not affect the appliance's temperature if the door is kept closed. The temperature memory function helps restore settings after power is restored.
  • Vacation Care:
    • Short Vacations (less than three weeks): Leave the appliance operating.
    • Long Vacations (several months): Remove all items, turn off the appliance, clean and dry the interior thoroughly, and leave the door slightly ajar to prevent odors and mold.
  • Moving the Appliance: Before moving, remove all items, securely tape down loose shelves, raise adjustable legs, and tape the door shut. Ensure the appliance remains upright during transport and protect its exterior.
  • Energy-Saving Tips:
    • Locate the appliance in the coolest area, away from heat sources and direct sunlight.
    • Ensure adequate ventilation and never cover air vents.
    • Minimize door opening time.
    • Allow hot foods to cool before placing them in the unit.
    • Wrap foods properly and wipe containers dry to reduce frost buildup.
    • Avoid lining shelves with aluminum foil, wax paper, or paper toweling, as this obstructs air circulation.
    • Organize and label food to reduce search times and door openings.
