4.1 Charge Parameters Settings
The MoonRay solar charge controller utilizes an advanced digital charge algorithm that can be controlled
to the lowest detail. Most users have no need for this extra and can leave it as is. But please read the
below and identify your battery type.
Sealed, Gel and Flooded battery types can be chosen by onboard conguration interface according
to the earlier chapter. For advanced battery types either the remote display or the Bluetooth dongle in
conjunction with the downloaded App is needed. Choose User settings and congure the parameters.
Always ask for detailed parameters from your battery manufacturer. Usually they do not offer more than
the most basic parameters. If so, please copy the otherwise empty parameters from our suggestions
found in tables in the end of this manual.
Most common in a Yacht or Motorhome is a sealed type battery. Flooded or open type is the simplest
type of battery (sometimes used as a starter battery), but it is not very common these days.
The MoonRay controller is congured for Sealed battery type by default so for most users no changes
are needed. However, for more advanced batteries the charge settings are crucial.
Gel type batteries are sensitive to high voltages and have preset settings available.
Batteries that require “User settings”
Some manufacturers might require a lower Float Charge Voltage for certain Gel Type batteries, if so, you
should use the “User setting” option.
AGM type batteries usually allow for a higher 14.4V boost charge while they require a more aggressive
temperature compensation.
Common LiFePO4 or other types of Lithium batteries might have very specic demands.
SUNBEAMsystem SMART LITHIUM batteries will work perfectly with the standard “sealed” setting, but
we offer possible alternative settings for the advanced user. Remember to remove the MoonRay fuse
during winterization. Lithium batteries have no use of continuous charge when not in use.
For advanced batteries a conservative oat voltage of 13.5-13.6V is the best option. But once again, go
by your battery manufacturers recommendations.
Load port sensing settings
To congure the Load port as a voltage sensing controller you would need to set “user settings”. Copy
the battery parameters for your battery type but update the on/off voltage settings according to your
whish.
Automatic Equalization
If set the Equalization will automatically take place the 28th of each month. This will prolong the life of
simple lead acid batteries.
For advanced batteries Equalization should be prevented. To do this set Equalize = Boost and the
Equalize duration timer to 0 min.
