This document is an installation and operation manual for a Swimming Pool Heat Pump.
Function Description
The heat pump unit is designed for heating swimming pool water. It operates on the principle of absorbing heat from the ambient environment and transferring it to the pool water. The process involves a refrigerant cycle:
- Heat absorption: Low pressure and superheated gas in the evaporator inhales heat from the ambient air, becoming high temperature and high pressure superheated vapor.
- Compression: The superheated vapor is exhausted into the condenser, exchanging heat with the water. The refrigerant condenses and becomes saturated or over-cooling high pressure and high temperature refrigerant liquid. The water is heated by the heat pump absorbing the heat energy released by the refrigerant.
- Expansion: The refrigerant liquid releases pressure by passing through the expansion valve, becoming low temperature and low pressure liquid.
- Evaporation: The refrigerant liquid flows into the evaporator and absorbs energy from the air, then is vaporized and becomes low pressure and over-heated vapor. The refrigerant working repeatedly as described above, then the water which flows through the condenser is heated up constantly, the temperature rises and can get the hot water.
The system requires external components for full functionality, including a water pump to cycle the heated water, a filter system to protect the heat pump from pool water, and a water pipe system for circulation. The heat pump provides a signal for the circulation pump, which must be connected via an A.C. contactor.
The unit can operate in different modes, including heating and cooling (if applicable, though the primary function described is heating). It also features a defrosting function. The controller allows users to set the temperature, view current water temperatures (inlet, outlet, coil), and manage timing functions for operation.
