  If the upper thread falls out, ensure the needle is correctly reinserted, or replace it if bent or broken. Check that the thread is inserted correctly and adjust the timing between the needle and hook. If the remaining upper thread is too short, increase its adjustment volume on the control box. Also, adjust the lower thread holder's location and tension if it's not holding the lower thread after trimming. Finally, readjust the needle’s up-stop film position if the thread take-up lever pulls the upper thread out of the needle when starting.
